Wtb Smart Car!
ok, so i want a smart.
who here can give me some tips on the best deal for a smart. keep in mind i know NOTHING about buying/leasing/owning cars. i'm car dumb. break it down. i want a hot pink smart. used or not. but cheap obviously. does anyone here have or know of a used smart for sale?? help.

Price for one. Even though you can pick up a new smart car for under 14k, they're shit complete shit for highway driving. If you ever get in an accident you're going to die. Drunk friends can pick it up and walk off with it/steal it (trust me, it's been done). If you ever leave the lower mainland you'll be snowed in during the winter, have starting problems, and never make it over half of canadas rural roads.
You may as well go hybrid, buy a small car like a ford focus, vw golf, a firefly, or an acura if you're looking to cut back on gas. The more fuel economy orientated your car is, all that means, is that it's not going fast very quickly (barring a few models, unless if you swap out the stock tranny and throw in something sexy) My boss fills his 96 integra up 2-3 times a month at 40$/tank. In conclusion: Smart cars are shite.

small does not mean cheap even if used.
trendy = expensive. a basic smart car before tax is just under $17K that loaded hot pink ragtop u want will set u back over $22K before tax. smart cars in canada are all turbo diesel. at the moment, our diesel is high sulphur, not good for the environment. they get gr8 mileage in the city, on the highway, they're only a lil better than let's say an older toyota yaris.

I've seen 2 or 3 car review TV shows on the Smartcar and they all say it is funky but too expensive and something like a Toyota Yaris is less $, more space, potentially more reliability, and almost as good gas mileage. Check the program websites like Driver's Seat, Driving Television, Car/Busiiness and some of them have the review videos online.
Diesel Jetta is another option, an older one cuz the new ones are expensive. Toyota Prius too but also expensive. Last edited by beedub; Apr 26, 06 at 11:33 PM.

You can fit 5 people in it, and you can get gas at any station (can be a nuisance w/ diesel).

I want to sell my 94' dodge colt... 125,000 kms, replaced timing belt at 100,000km, all season snow tires still under warrenty for another 60,000km, good condition.... 1.5L 4cyl, GREAT ON GAS! I might even leave the mp3 deck and sub in it.... msg me if you are interested....

Head on collisions don't mean shit.
I stand by what I said. And a head on collision with a barricade is less damaging then a vehicle travelling the opposite (and almost any other direction). A one ton will fuck a smart car up if t-boned or head on. A one ton with a lift will hit you at head height and fuck you up
