regardless of wether we need to care about our neighbors campaign or not (obviously we do), the fact of the matter is that there are TONS of americans living in canada, and americans CAN vote from anywhere in the world. as long as you are an american citizen you can vote there. so obviously they are trying to pull votes from americans living in canada, or working in canada.
i know 3 americans living here that vote for their election from right here in the lower mainland.

There are tons of Americans living and working or going to school in Canada. Lots of Canadians also hold American citizenship as well - they're allowed to vote. There have been rallies all over Canada for US presidential candidates (mostly Obama) this time around, so I'm not at all surprised at the campaign signs!

The sad part in all of this is that young Canadians care waaaaaaay more about who the next Democratic presidential candidate than they do about politics on their home soil. Most of them can't even be bothered to vote in a federal election...which is why we were somehow able to elect (albiet by a minority) a complete douche into the office of prime minister. Those ads though relevant for some can only contribute to this..

When the liberals get some strong leadership it could happen.

The reason why so many people know American politics instead of Canadian is probably caused by a few things.

Most of the media out there is American.

So many younger people get there news from sources like the Colbert Report and the Daily show. In order to get these shows you have to have a working knowledge of American politics.

American politics are interesting to watch. It's far less civil, and sadly, since a two party system causes a lot more drama it translates to good TV.

no matter who is in power, anyone ruiling a minority gov't is in a tough place. i don't think that's very awesome..maybe i'm missing something though?

any bill that goes through must have the interests of 2 political parties to succeed, which means anything going through right now must take into account multiple political viewpoints instead of just the viewpoint of the majority party.

its insane. guys yell and scream heckle and boo when a member is speaking....yelling back and forth and such. its awsome and BEYOND civil ahahaha.

I've seen it, and I agree the parliment meetings can be uncivil. But outside of that it stays reletivley civil.

I should clarify:

American politics seem interesting because media coverage basically revolves around the idea of Liberals vs Conservatives. And you have to hate one side and love the other.

ideally yea... it seems like in most cases however, it is more of "voting for the lesser of the two evils"
