Anti-Americanism in Canada (and on Fnk)

I've spent the greater part of my day procrastinating on Fnk. What's with so many Canadians being anti-American? It's really weird. Reminds me of small man syndrome.

As for the reasoning, have you seen the political shitshow that's been going on down there lately?

Yeah. We all know that. You've posted that on this board at least half a dozen times. But thanks for the reminder.

I love being Canadian. That's probably why I live here despite the fact that I hold a US Greencard. I just don't feel the need to put down Americans in order to show my patriotism.

Esi, come ON!

W/ the Yanks' actions over the last few decades? The slovenness of their public to allow it? The disregard/disrespect it has shown other nations, the UN, the environment, and human rights, to name a few?

Yeah, I KNOW there's some good people down there, like there are, everywhere. But, those aren't the people the world sees/gets abused/scorned/ignored/trampled over by...

My biggest problem is that too many Canucks are MORE interested in what's going on w/ the US Circus than what's happening in their OWN backyard, where the population actually HAS a say, coming up!

I agree with you, but I think that North Korea, Iran, China, and Russia are all worse offenders. What about the African and South American dictators? Again, i'm just observing what I hear around me and read on this board. I never hear people go on and on about Kim and the fact that his unilateral policies have resulted in the starvation of tens of millions of North Koreans.

No, most (not some, like you said) Americans are good people. The reason America has the government it does is because of voter apathy. Canadians are just as guilty of this.

Yeah. Exactly. We're too busy shit talking and pointing fingers to realize that there's an impending economic shit storm heading out way that could rival the one happening down south.

BTW: Americans do have a say. They just don't exercise their right to vote. Canadians don't either. We're just lucky enough to have 1. mostly left leaning parties and 2. more than two political parties.

I'm surprised that number is not higher than 90%.

Those numbers do not change the fact that the USA is a democracy. They have a little under one month to vote out the current government if they so choose. They voted Bush in twice. Or rather, Bush got elected twice because most people didn't vote.

Why aren't we more worried about (and discussing) the fact that our Prime Minister has called an election before most Canadians have a chance to realize that our economy is heading toward a recession as well?

You're absolutely right. I don't know why I used that South American in my example.

their voting system is pretty fucked up right now. my understanding is that election fraud by both parties is rampant.

pretty sure more than a couple of those brutal dictarorships around the world were either supported or a directdirect result of US meddling over the years

Personally, I think this whole anti-americanism in canada has been a standard part of canadian culture for many decades now...

^and that's pretty sad. It's pathetic that Anti-Americanism can be defined as 'culture' for any nation.
