What have we become?
There was a time when a solid bassline would carry us through the night
Now we find our rythym at the bottom of a bottle or a line in a stall. Our open arms and smiles have been replaced with stiffness and scowls. We used to leave our attitudes at the door, now we wear it like a medal. PLUR used to mean something profound, now it is said with mockery and disdain. Our beautiful dream has been chained to the ground to die at the foot of our roughly packaged box of bitterness. There was a time when our scene promised to break to new levels of understanding and joy... It is sad that we have made it what it has become.... |

its called going mainstream.
it happens to anything that starts out good. BUT just cos the rave scene is pretty much dead, doesn't mean what it originally stood for is dead too. hell no. what it stood for is and always has been going very strong. |

give me a break you guys are too idealistic, raves since the beginning were all about getting fucked up on drugs and having a good time..pure hedonism...PLUR and all that shit were just retarded sayings created by 15 year olds on E. |

hmmm.../\ I wasn't expecting so much of a response but I'm glad the work has generated something...I kinda disagree with SEAN!...I was raving for 4 years before I ever took any drugs at one. This poem was actually made for a couple of friends that I know who went from really happy and nice people at parties to really highschooly and cliquey at parties...It made me sad to see that...They turned into something that they used to hate...
And I agree with AGRO, it depends on the party you go to...I didn't see the Vancouver syndrom of nasty attitude at Kick it or at the Tiesto ditty I went to and I really liked those two events...but for the most part the scene down here is pretty....cold. |

Idealistic? fuck yes. everything we make and do starts as an idea. if you have to ask what the rave scene was originally about then you've probably never been to a really good rave. |

The rave scene is over, we still enjoy something similar, but the corporate culture has caught up and moved in.
What was significant was that it was the first worldwide cultural movement since the 60's, that was spawned outside the corporate regime or any artist in particular; selling things wasn't on the agenda, and that kept greed away for the most part. I've never met an altruistic promotor though. |
