any form of hormonal birth control freaks me out.

i went on the shot one year and the side effects were freaky.
i stopped taking it cuz i kept having blackouts and dizzy spells..
and my hair kept falling out, which is hella scary...

something about a birth control patch freaks me out too.....

i dunno, to each their own i guess

I think what you're thinking of is Seasonale [sp?]. You only get your period 4 times a year, but it's still in pill form. Basically all your getting is a bigger thing of pills, with 3 packs worth of pills before you have the placebo's. Same thing as just skipping your period with regular pills.

What ?

Are you implying you think my doctor gave me just a random sticker to place on my body that has nothing to do with birth control?

I am confuzzled by your statement...help w/ what?

PS - DAY 4
no skin irritation
no breakthrough bleeding

and SO FAR no uncontrollable urges to kill

Here's a Depo experience for you ladies: I bled continuously for the entire three months. Once the shit's in your system, you can't get it out.

I decided to try it again about a year later. Same thing happened. It was like having a moderate flow period of three months.

One of my close friends in high school went on it, though. Her first form of contraception. She's still on it 5 years later. Hasn't had a single side effect. I guess it depends on your body.

And about the skipping periods thing.
If you guys think about it, women are having more periods now than they're ever had.
We used to only ovulate about 12 times in a lifetime, now we're doing it 12 times a year.
If a woman had an average of 10 pregnancies (i'm talking pregnancies, not living children) in her lifetime that meant that she would go at least a year without a period. If she chose to breast feed (and everyone did two centuries ago), that meant another 6months to a 1.5 years without a period. Breastfeeding continuously keeps you from ovulating.

Same woman gets pregnant again, repeat the cycle.

So having a few periods in our lifetime was the norm a few centuries ago. It definitely doesn't make us freaks now.

Maryah: I guess I could look this up, but i'm just wondering if you know whether or not the patch is triphasic or monophasic?

That's all true but it's not so much that which bothers me, it's the fact that say you got pregnant you wouldn't know for a lot longer. I know the chances aren't high but I know two people that got pregnant on the pill. I think I just feel less sketchy getting my period once a month.

the missing period that comes along with the shot,
in my opinion
is great.
i HATE having my period.
the spotting is a bitch and comes irregularly
but at least its light
as for getting pregnant..
if youre concerned about it,
just take a pregnancy test once a month.
uber cheap, if not free from your doctor.

my aunt was on depo and she told me to never never go on it.

she was on it for a few years, and she had constant lower back pain which she'd never had before, as well as heart flutters(where her heart would beat really fast and hard in her chest for a second and then feel like it stopped before resuming normal beating). She ended up talking to a nurse from New Zealand, who was like "duh, that's why depo isn't legal in New Zealand". Apparently it's not approved for use in a few countries.

too scary for me.

Hi All.
I'm a noob so I'm just jumping in and starting to post.

I have been on the depo shot coming up 2 years now and I think it's wonderful. I have had a few side effects but nothing compared to what I have seen or heard from other people using it. Me personally I started to lose lots of my hair, and I gained tons of weight. Roughly in a month after I have the shot I gain about 20lbs or less.

I love the idea of not having my period, not having to remember pills, patches and all this other stuff. Its actually really cheap too. We pay around $33.00 each shot. My boyfriend is very interested in my birth control methods... He usually pays for my shots and he comes with me when it's due.

Depo Provera is 150mg of medroxyprogesterone acetate. It's a similar chemical to progesterone.

depo always seems to be a love/hate thing. you either love it or you hate it. some people it works wonderful for, then you have others like esi where you bleed for 3 months. if that happened, i'd go crazy.

i'll be on the patch in two weeks. YA! i'm sick of pills. for some, one pill a day might not be hard, but when you have more then one and they can't all be taken at the same time, one less is great.

damn didn't bother clicking on this thread til now..thought it was about nicotine patches.

very interesting.. ill definately ask about the patch next time in the clinic. im allergic to the stickyness band-aids.. (i get big rashes).. so im guessing its prob not the best idea. damn sensitive skin.

recently swapped to tricyclen.. major weight gainage. :soak: this is my 3rd brand..still can't find the perfect pills.

ms.jingles, keep us updated!

that has to be hands down, the worst part about birth control.. finding one that works for you! i wish it could be magic and they all worked for everyone. hah

6th?!?!! holy cow. i like how tricyclen is a higher dosage and if im off a few hours im still pretty much garenteed ok. at times i think im just picky on the pills... grumpyness doesn't always have to be from the pills. gaining weight is part of growing up. still i think im gonna keep testing.

the patch sounds good (so far since there is no bad stuff happening) but i think personally i'd feel self concious about it, its stupid, but i would.
i've been on alesse for 4 years now, and i love it. i actually lost weight, got rid of my terrifying cramps, and im not too crazy on it. i can realize when im "emotional" and usually just avoid people\situations at that time. i've only had a couple of problems with it, but i dont think it applied to the pill, it was more so related to my diet, life stess, ect. i have alot of girlfriends who use alesse and most of them like it, however with one girl it made her rag totally unreliable, her cramps worsened and she got bad headaches, and packed on a few.

i have a question about the patch, does it contain the same qualities the pills do in preventing ovarian cancer?

uhhhhhhhhh tricyclen was a nasty experience for me. I couldn't explain why I was crying every fucking day about the stupidest things until I went off it. It caused some mad depression for me.. I even cried during sex once. hahahaha.

It's awesome when you finally find a brand that works for you.

Tri-cyclen is the only pill I've ever been on. I felt no change at all when I went on it. I had no weight gain and actually stopped being as moody during my period after I went on it. I went on it in the first place because I have Rosacea.
