MENNO DE JONG, Holland - Intuition Recordings / Menno de Jong - Intuition Podcast

For some, it’s already a logical deduction. For those who haven’t heard of him this might be the opportunity to catch up on your DJ literature about the future of Trance. These days successful new DJs have to be a master of many more disciplines than just mixing music. As owner of Intuition Recordings, devoted producer, globetrotting DJ, worldwide broadcasted radio show host and event promoter, Menno has shown that being a workaholic pays off in the dance music scene.

Whilst Intuition Recordings has grown to be one of the top Trance labels, Menno’s tracks have found their way into the playlists of nearly every mainroom, bedroom and underground Trance DJ. In the meantime his Intuition Radio Show gains territory consistently and reaches tens of thousands of listeners weekly. In the end the real action takes place behind the decks though: With a non-stop smile, energetic dancing and continuous contact with the audience he shares his passion for magic melodies and dance floor rocking beats.

Only 23 years young yet Menno’s list of international gigs is bigger than anyone else’s at that age. He has played in more than 20 countries, for clubs and events such as Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Creamfields, Trance Energy, Sensation White, Mysteryland, Amnesia Ibiza, Tomorrowland in Belgium, the Love Parade in Berlin, Gaudi Arena in Moscow, Winter Music Conference in Miami, ESP in Johannesburg and many more, alongside some of the top names in the scene such as Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, The Prodigy, Paul van Dyk, Marco V, and Markus Schulz.

His top notch DJ’ing is complemented by some of the finest Trance productions recently released. With tracks such as Tundra, Guanxi, Majestic, and Second Thoughts and remixes for Mark Otten, The Thrillseekers, Karen Overton, and many more, he has developed into one of the top producers in the scene. His recent project ‘Spirit’ with Re:Locate and ‘Magma’ and ‘Momentum’ with Leon Bolier have even charted on national radio stations as well as the official Dutch single charts.

Menno’s years of hard work have resulted in a DJ Mag Top 100 debut at number 72, and subsequently jumping 10 places to number 62. With a number 10 notation in the world’s biggest Trance site, Trance Addict, to top it off, Menno continues to be one of the ambassadors of the underground Trance scene. If that isn’t proof enough of Menno’s reputation, when Twisted asked Armin Van Buuren who his top pick was for 2008 he was quick to exclaim, “Menno, you’d better watch out for him!”

ANDY WHITBY, UK – Awsum / Strike! / Andy Whitby V2.0

Andy Whitby is not just a hard house DJ, he is an experience. He is a state of mind. He is the transporter of minds and souls to an amazing frantic paradise that, while leaving you knackered, strangely also leaves you feeling re-invigorated.

At 6ft tall and broad-shouldered, with his trademark shaved head, a chunky ostentatious chain around his neck, and immaculate dress sense, he makes an imposing figure who commands respect. His confident appearance is matched by his masterful control of a good mixing desk.

To watch Andy DJ is part of the Whitby experience. Cocky? Perhaps, but certainly not arrogant, Whitby is in control of the minds and bodies of his audience. A very precise and confident body language gives a visual indication to what he is playing as he acts out each track. His precision mixing at incalculable speeds is part of the show; as each track mixes in you can positively feel the dance-floor going up a notch to keep up with the frantic and energetic DJ that has them all by the balls. Andy’s blend of vocal uplifting bouncy house is like him: deliciously hard yet very accessible and for the time he is performing, the space right in front of the DJ decks is hotly contested floor space.
Andy Whitby is the standard that so many more strive for. There are a plethora of CD compilations that he has mixed but listening to one of these is like trying to view a fine piece of art in a darkened room. You need to see him live to really appreciate the full and overwhelming experience that is The Saviour of Hard-Dance.

You can generally tell if an event is going to be credible and worth the money if you see Andy Whitby’s name heading the DJ line-up. It’s almost like seeing a quality assurance seal, royal crest or five star rating, so don’t miss out as Twisted brings you one of the most sought-after performers in dance music for a special intimate and interactive set!

TECHNIKAL, UK - Technikal Recordings / Strike! / Technikal Portal

Now firmly established as one of the most respected and biggest selling artists in the world of Hard Dance, Technikal (aka Alf Bamford) has kept up the blistering form that first got him noticed, with a slew of classic productions over the last year. Never one to rest on his laurels, he has pushed his immense production skills further by successfully producing acclaimed Hardcore tracks alongside his unique brand of Hard Dance, as well as producing Electro and Psy-Trance-tinged material. Keen to show he is no one-trick-pony, this young star continues to test his skills to the limits.

Technikal first found his passion for dance music as a young teenager, and was inspired by his older brother to take up music production. Producing from the age of thirteen, he got his first track signed at the age of seventeen - and has gone on to sell hundreds of thousands of records across the globe. Since being discovered by HeatUK’s Spencer Freeland and Marc French in 2004, Technikal has made a truly meteoric rise through the Hard Dance scene, working with the likes of Phil Reynolds, Steve Hill, Rob Tissera, Guyver, Lisa Lashes... the list goes on and on. He has earned the respect of his peers and is consistently cited as one of the most talented and innovative producers around.

Alf’s DJ career has taken off in a big way too. Now cool and confident behind the decks, his invigorating, peak-time blend of Hard Dance has seen him play such illustrious gigs as Dance Valley, Impulz, Tidy Weekender, Goodgreef, Frantic, and his spellbinding midnight set at HeatUK’s New Years Eve Party at Brixton Academy. Further afield he has played at Australia’s biggest and best parties, as well as stamping his mark in places like Cape Town, Stockholm, and Trondheim.

At the 2006 Hard Dance Awards, the public voted Technikal as runner up in the best producer, best remixer, and best track categories. The Harderfaster Reader Awards 2006 also proclaimed Technikal as the best producer and remixer of the year. It’s unheard of for someone so young to conquer the dance music scene in such a short time, but Technikals production prowess is too mighty for the outcome to be anything less than this. Now fully in his stride, this young prodigy sets the pace for the Hard Dance scene. Don’t miss out as Technikal makes his first ever appearance in Vancouver!

B.E.N., UK - Total Digital Recordings / Mainframe Recordings / J00F Recordings / B.E.N. - International Trance DJ / Producer - Home

Born in October 1987 in Halifax, England B.E.N. has been a part of this industry since the age of 13. Beginning his career specifically as a DJ, he has now successfully established himself as a music producer, remixer, and owner of two record labels.

On the DJ front the style of B.E.N. ranges from Deep Electro influenced warm up sets right through to peak time driving, euphoric Trance that’s finished off with lashing’s of tough Tech & Psychedelic material. B.E.N. has had the honour of playing a fantastic gig list alongside many of the planet’s best, which includes the likes of Marco V, Marcel Woods, Rank 1, Gareth Emery, DJ Remy, Menno De Jong, & many more. B.E.N. has had the privilege to take his sound to many an international crowd, whether it be in countries such as Indonesia, Sweden, Canada, or Romania. B.E.N. has played on a global scale to stand alongside the rest and he’s also the resident DJ for John ‘00’ Fleming’s J00F Recordings; yet another strong achievement under his belt.

The DJ side has always been the primary passion for B.E.N. He has successfully run the Total T.R.A.N.C.E. radio show series for a number of years on the highly rated ETN.fm, which has featured world renowned guest mixes from fellow DJ’s such as Marco V, Marcel Woods, & Jon O’Bir. B.E.N. held his first residency for his own Total T.R.A.N.C.E. club nights at the age of just 14 and played an excessive amount of five to six hour sets on a monthly basis to greatly appreciative crowds. B.E.N. certainly knows which tracks to drop at just the right moment to get a crowd moving and with constant fresh and innovative material, whether it be from B.E.N. or other producers, you can be guaranteed that each new set will be as memorable as the last.

In the studio B.E.N.’s productions have been hitting record stores worldwide since 2005 thanks to signings to top record labels such as Armada, Coldharbour, J00F, Banshee Worx, Fektive & Captivate, as well as on B.E.N.’s own Total Digital and Mainframe imprints. His tracks have grown to be loved by some of the worlds biggest and most established DJs like Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz and John ‘00’ Fleming to name just a few. In a recent interview Markus Schulz called B.E.N. the ‘DJ to watch out for in 2008’ – far be it for us to disagree, so please join us in welcoming B.E.N. back to Vancouver!

ALKATRAZ – Twisted / Bigstar Records / MySpace.com - Alkatraz - Vancouver, CA - House / Electro / Techno - www.myspace.com/alkatrazmuzik

Formed in 2005 by Gabriel Maga aka G-Bot and John Pirito aka Dub-J, Alkatraz has proven to be the future of dance music. Their sound can be described as a blend of Banging House, Electro and Breaks. Whether it's in the lab or on stage their energy rips through the speakers. The two have been producing and DJ'ing separately for the last 10 years, collaborating occasionally on various projects.
Fast forward to spring 2007. Alkatraz releases their sophomore LP. Debuted at the WMC Miami, the record was welcomed to rave reviews especially the B side cut, ‘I Just Wanna Party’ featuring Nikita. Meanwhile, Alkatraz has had the opportunity to rock dance floors from Canada to China with some of the best in the world; Junior Sanchez, Bad Boy Bill, Sander Van Doorn, John ‘00’ Fleming, 4Strings, and Lee Haslam among them. This past year saw the release of their Electro Trance anthem ‘Fame’, and a groovy new rework of Shakedown ‘At Night’. Be there as Vancouver’s favorite live act returns to rock the party!

Can you be a bit more specific rather than responding like an ass?

What do you define as forward thinking? Are there specific artists/DJ's you're wanting to see? Let me know and I'll pass the info on.

Didn't mean to respond like an ass. I don't know why promoters still put trance and hard dance in the big room (please tell me why?). Most of it is crap IMO. It's a real shame that Dave Armstrong is in the second room. Think he's much bigger than the trance and hard dance dj's. Just wait tilll the new vocal mix of Love is gone crosses over into the mainstream, maybe not in North America, but definitaly in the rest of the world. I'm all about the breaks and house. It's just that the rave scene in Vancouver has done the Trance/ Hard Dance in the mainroom far too long. Where's the Techno, House, and Breaks?

Ok here goes the wish list

Dylan Ryhmes
Elite Force
Rennie Pilgrem

^you been under a rock? most of those artists have made numerous appearances in vancouver. i don't see how bringing in artists who have already been here is "pushing things forward".

Ok here goes the wish list

Hatiras - has been MANY times
Dylan Ryhmes - this show wouldn't be well attended - not enough of a profile here in Van.
Elite Force - this show wouldn't be well attended - not enough of a profile here in Van.
Rennie Pilgrem - has been here... hasn't released anything huge or recent to warrant bringing him back.
Annie Nightingale - possibly.
Drumattic Twins - I've brought them before... Nick and Lanx are good dudes... releasing a new album this year too. A possible for '08.
D. Ramirez - Been here care of Blueprint
Adam Freeland - was just here on January 4th.
Dave Clark - meh.
Madox - - this show wouldn't be well attended - not enough of a profile here in Van.
Evil Nine - possibly.
Mason
Fedde Le Grand - we were the first to bring him to Van and he's coming back on a Monday care of Blueprint and CanThrill.
Eric Prydz - we brought him last year.
M.A.N.D.Y. - was also here last year.
Tiga - was here last year.
Steve Angello - coming in '08.
Dave Spoon - maybe.
Alter Ego - would be dope.
Freemasons - were just here.
A. Skillz - I just brought Adam in December to Shine. Where were you?
Malente - was just here in October '07... I'm sure he'll be coming through again
Plump Djs - Cant enter North America currently
I would say a majority of those DJ's are club DJ's and would be better appreciated / attended in a club. We've also brought a fair bit of those DJ's to Vancouver already.

See my comments above.

I didn't know there is a difference to a club dj and a rave dj. Yawn arguing on the net is not fun. I would still rather see u play the mainstage rather then Andy Whitby.

BIG difference actually... all ages show vs. 19+ show with alcohol.

Almost all of those artists have been here within the last year. I'm sure they'll be back soon enough.

And as far as Breaks go, I'm one of the biggest supporters/promoters of Breakbeats in Van alongside a few other promoters. I'll have some rather large shows coming this year so stay tuned.
