The Truth about Summer Break and Reid Speed

upon arriving at the show (after a 6 hour flight from montreal and the subsequent drive from vancouver) , we encountered josh. I asked josh to pay me since he had never sent a deposit and we did not feel like hunting him down at 4 am, and especially since it took him 3 days and a lot of hounding to pay me after the last show.i played for him. he laughed and flat out refused, saying we could "find him later, after I played, and what did we think, he was gonna pay me before?" incidentally, autobotz was cordially handed an envelope containing his full pay without having to ask, prior to playing a single record.
upon arriving at the stage, i noticed only one of the cd players was hooked up. the other was sitting without cables off to the side. I asked someone to get the necessary cables so that I could play my full set of speed garage and house, and after 10 minutes or so someone did hook it up.
I played speed garage records for an hour and 15 minutes. Upon running out of records I switched to breaks and house CDs. Upon attempting to mix my second cd, I discovered why that second cd player was not being used: the pitch control was busted. I tried everything to get it to work but fact is the equiptment was broken. however, the next dj was nowhere in sight. Autobotz was just starting his breaks set on the other main stage, so instead of just leaving my stage empty and without sound, I reached for a few drum & bass records. in the middle of my third D&B track, Josh stormed up to the stage and went absolutely ballistic on me, screaming "what the fuck are you doing?!?!? you CANNOT play drum & bass on this fucking stage! this is a house and speed garage stage!! what the fuck! SHUT THAT FUCKING SHIT OFF RIGHT NOW. fuck you if you think youre getting paid!!" and stormed off without listening to a word I had to say about his shit equiptment and without having a DJ to go on!
Josh severely overreacted in an ill-thought out fit of rage, acted in a completely unprofessional manner, and did in fact order me, one of his headliners, off the stage. Threatening not to pay me. There is absolutely NOTHING that I did to justify these actions. I played my speed garage as requested, and when his equiptment crapped out i kept the music going, and played my full set. It should have ended with me getting paid, and being allowed to leave like any other DJ. However, that’s not what happened.
Someone else started playing, someone who was NOT the next dj on the lineup. as I collected my stuff. people were coming up to me to 1) give props and 2) ask what the hell had just happened. i explained to several kids what had transpired, and everyone agreed it was fucked up. I began looking for josh to attempt to get my money. I saw him, and then he ran over and got right up in my face, pointed sharply, and screamed inches away from my nose "that was the most unprofessional fucking thing i have ever seen in my life! you ruined that stage! what the fuck do you think you were you doing!"
Clearly josh had not been anywhere near the stage during the entire hour & 20 minutes I played speed garage, and had only managed to catch the 3 drum & bass tracks.
I lost it at this point and said "what is unprofessional is your sound, how your equiptment doesnt work, how you just kicked one of your headliners off the stage leaving it without sound, and most certainly how you are threatening to not pay me after i did my fucking job. YOU are the most unprofessional promoter i have ever worked with, this is a fucking joke. stop acting like a pussy-ass bitch, be a fucking man, and pay me, now." josh became enraged and screamed more bullshit at me about how i wasnt getting any money.
at this point one of my fans, someone I had met 5 minutes before, who had seen josh scream at me and order me off the stage ran up and grabbed josh. josh tried to run away, but this guy brought him straight to the ground and held him in a headlock. No punching ensued, no fighting. The guy held josh down and told him to pay me, that what josh was doing was wrong. Josh kept struggling, and eventually after a minute the guy just let him go.
josh started screaming how I was "so fucked" and ran away like the little bitch that he is. After a minute, I ran after him, thinking that now he must realize that whatever delusions he was harboring about not paying me must be shattered, and that he would have to realize that there were 1500 kids who could certainly attest to the fact that I played a full set of speed garage, and had indeed done the job I was booked for (whether they liked it or not). Instead, as I got to the front gates, josh was yelling at security, "thats her! she is fucking out of here!"
I was promptly strongarmed by a couple of 300-lb security who tried to drag me out. I resisted, explaining to security how josh was trying to fuck me over and not pay me after my job was done.
I asked them how they would feel if at noon or whenever they got off work and went to collect their pay josh said “fuck you, youre not getting paid” and had some 660 lb dudes drag Them out! Then "Door Girl" confronted me. she said "what is going on reid... you only played for 15 minutes and you were playing d&b on the house stage and who is your friend that tried to jump josh?" I explained that ONE- I had indeed played an entire set of speed garage (as all those people who were there can attest), and the only reason I played those three D&B tracks was that their equiptment was broken, and i did not want to leave the stage in silence with no dj there to play after, and TWO- that the guy who jumped on josh was a fan I had just met, whom I didn’t know. She called me a liar, and claimed she had seen me play my entire set and that it was only 15 minutes and it was all D&B, and that she had SEEN me VOLUNTARILY leave the stage in silence after bitching that there was no dj to play after me.
UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE. This bitch was at the door! She had no firsthand knowledge of what had happened!. I tried to stay calm, which is not easy when some cracked out door girl is calling you a liar as 2 300 lb security dudes are holding you down hard, and while all this is happening these fools are trying to tell me im not going to get paid for flying in from Montreal that evening and driving 2 hours, and playing my entire set. and not only was i not going to get paid but now I was being forced out of the party without my records or my ride! I told her to stop being a fucking pussy ass bitch like her boy josh and pay me for doing my goddamned job. I asked the security again how they would feel working all night and not getting paid, to which this girl went off on her saying "if you would just be calm this wouldnt be happening, but you fucked it up, you cant just come and yell at me, i cant talk to her..." and ordered the security to remove me, a 5’2, 105 lb girl, with whatever force it took. they repeatedly threatened to kick my ass if I did not comply.
then she changed tactics. she said if i would simply "reveal the name" of the person who jumped on josh, she "had the money right here" and I would get paid. I repeated that I did not know the person who jumped on josh, he was a fan I had met 5 minutes prior to him jumping on Josh, and he had only done so (I believe) because he felt I was being completely wronged and realized NOBODY there was going to stand up for me, so he took action. He was the only person willing to stand up for me and not just stand there and let me get screwed by a shady piece of shit promoter who obviously was only putting me thru all this because I am a girl and cant physically kick his ass myself. Door Girl said that was bullshit , that I HAD to know the guy’s name (even though i dont live here and know about 5 people here) and ordered them to remove me because I wouldn’t “cooperate”.
so I was jacked out of there- 4 300 lb security guys, one to each limb, removed me from the party without my records and without my ride and without getting paid- with extreme disrespect.
I waited outside the party for over an hour, with various people coming over to try & get me to reveal the name of the person I didn’t know, other security coming over and telling me to “start walking”. Door girl came over again and repeated that “she had all my money, it was just a matter of getting this guy into police custody, and so if I would just cooperate I could get paid and go.”
Half an hour later, with a sweep of the party unable to find the guy who jumped Josh, some dude from edmonton came outside and said “here’s the deal. You fucked up, and we cant find the guy, so they are agreeing to give you half your money, which you should be happy to get after what you did." I said “after what I did? After a 6 hour flight from Montreal, a 2 hour ride from a friend who did not get reimbursed for gas money (since Josh was not providing any sort of transportation to his venue for artists, hence 4 headliners of his not even showing), and after playing an hour and a half long headlining set to a huge crowd, I should be happy that you are handing me LESS than half of what I am owed?!? are you crazy? How does this make sense? I did my job. I need to get paid. If I don’t get the rest of my money I will absolutely be furious and rightfully so, and I will make sure that people know the truth about what happened."
And there it is.
So to all you people here on this board who were wondering what actually went down, that’s the entire epic. If that makes you lose respect for me, so be it. I am not a fucking pussy who lets people take advantage of me, and I will stand up for myself. I have a feeling the people on this board who were saying that I acted unprofessionally must have been the drunkards on the stage (or friends therof) whom I asked to stop dancing or leave the stage since they were skipping my needles, and spilled an entire bottle of fruit-alcohol into my record bag. EXCUSE me for being pissed about that and screaming at you. But you had NO BUSINESS on that stage acting like that. I was there to do a job. I did my job despite a LOT of BULLSHIT. And yet, I still got fucked over. So I have no other choice but to make sure that my booking agency- Contagious Musiq- knows not to book any artists with Josh again, as well as letting other agencies and other respected artists that i am friendly with what happened, and that to avoid drama they should avoid working with Josh Silverwaters.

Peace out vancouver, im sorry that this clown Josh has to be here, but i know he is not representative of your city or the kind of people who live here. He is but one bad apple, and there are a few bad ones in every city.

I don't think stress from running an event is an excuse to swear and yell at your clients. He chose to run a professional production company, he should act accordingly.

People deal with stress everyday of their lives. How often do you see someone swearing and yelling at their clients, no matter big or small? If he can't deal with it, perhaps he shouldn't be running events.

Well ok, an individual can make bad decisions when under stress, but is it still an excuse when bad decisions are continually made? From the testimony Reid gave, it seems as though bad decisions were made from the get go. If he did realize his wrong, it should have been realized after his first blowup. It shouldn't take a whole night's worth of events for his to realize his unprofessionalism.

Hey Reid - I gotta call you out on some things here.

The guy that came up to you after all of this happened and you were sitting in your friends car, was me - I'm Kraig, from Twisted Productions here in Vancouver, not Edmonton (I had nothing to do with SummerBreakz other than DJ'ing there myself). -- I think you were thinking Edmonton because I had mentioned to you that you and I will be playing the same room as you at an upcoming party in Edmonton (Frequency).

I chose to involve myself as I saw Josh right after this happened who was still quite upset and agitated so I chatted with him for a bit. I then walked outside of the party to the car where you were sitting and introduced myself to you and that I was trying to understand what happened.

NEVER did I say, "you fucked up." -- That's not something I would say or even had enough knowledge of the situation to say. What I did say was that the promoter (right or wrong) believes you have fucked up. As for "finding the guy." Again, I said nothing of the sort but what I did say what that Josh and Kristine are looking for the guy that did jump Josh.

I took my own time to then go back into the party and say to Josh and Kristine --"look, I have no idea what went on here, but you aren't going to work it out tonight with a show still going on. If I were you, pay her half her fee now and work the rest out later." I relayed that to you and again, I did not say "what you did" but more so "what they thought you did."

Anyway - I was trying to help with the situation as I was on my way out and saw this.
