not wanting to jam with my guitar friends anymore...
... and being too much of a pussy to tell them I wanna quit. They're great friends and talented people, but everytime I play with them I get more reluctant to go to the next jam session. Nothing personal, but its pretty hard to write anything cohesive when everyone has nearly opposite styles. I want to play more melodic, trippy stuff (a perfect circle, incubus, tool, etc.), another guy wants to play super fast thrash (slayer, metallica, etc.) and the drummer wants to play black metal (CoF, opeth, etc.). The drummer is really new to drumming and can't keep a consistant beat. The thrash metal guitarist playing ultra fast doesn't really help either. And when right when the thrash guitarist starts playing, he pretty much drones me out, making me just quit playing. I try to keep up but I'm not fast enough and to be able to play like he does would require shit loads of practice everyday, but I'm not really into putting shit loads of effort into practicing a genre I really don't care for.
BUT they are great friends and I don't wanna just abandon them either..... |

obviously there are conflicting talents here, maybe ask the metal guy if he would settle for writing rock riffs, then u guys can work on some funky melodic stuff with a rock chorus or something..if not you are best of practicing on your own, im sure there is a polite way of saying that....
I know where your coming from though, all my friends are hardcore metal addicts, and i'd rather just play something more harmonic, like apc or red hot chilli peppers.... |

my gf is learning bass and I have another friend that wants me to teach her guitar... I'm considering playing with them instead... I can drum with the two djembes I got... go for a beach effect...
and I like metal, just not thrash metal... |
