overall it's good. whether i like it better than uneasy listening is debatable...this is a lot of hip hop, not as diverse as before.
when it is released here this week i will buy the CD....i just thought i'd treat myself to a sneak preview from good ol internet. worth a purchase. good cruisin or party music. |

Just to clarify - Uneasy Listening was a mixtape that Z-Trip and DJ P made back in 2001 utilizing a 4-track recorder and the original source material and was a large reason the "mash-up" explosion in popularity started up. It's unfortunate that Z-Trip gets most of the credit for Uneasy Listening as a lot of the blends that were used were actually DJ P's ideas (Z-Trip always gives credit to P whenever asked about it) and P is an absolutely sick DJ that should be right up there with Z-Trip in terms of recognition. Shifting Gears is Z-Trip's debut album on Hollywood Records of all self-produced beats and songs in which he collaborated with large number of artists including guys like Lyrics Born, Chuck D, Soup, Aceyalone and yes, even Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. Apparently Z-Trip doesn't like admitting to that one, he says most of the work actually came from DJ P (who is apparently the unsung hero of the album). Also, it was done using a 4-track rather than simply decks, effects and mixer. Z-Trip is notoriously against studio mashups and thinks of them as a cheap copout for the DJ experience. He had a demo CD he handed out at parties/clubs... I got my hands on an m4a copy of it and it's off the hook. But mainly it's just a recording of a show he did in LA a whiles back. Fucking awesome show though. |
