I recommend the Mackies.
I've got a set, and I'm happy to say that while they were expensive, the only reason I'll ever need to buy monitor speakers again will be if they are stolen or destroyed in a fire or something. I've had them for about four years now and they're an absolute pleasure to work with. Heh, two of my friends who have Tannoy Reveals and Event 20-20's, respectively, have told me separately that they're going to have to upgrade their monitoring environment after checking some of their mixes on my system. :) I haven't heard the KRK's, but I have heard that they're a decent Mackie replacement if you're on a budget. $1400/pair is a great price; new they're $1200 each. I got mine in Toronto, at Long&McQuade. I got them to knock off $200 off their sticker price, by showing them a quote from Songbird Music for the same speakers... and they didn't even bat an eye. |

Guitar Center in Lynnwood Washington (just north of Seattle) has lots of monitors etc, many items at excellent prices, call for price on what you want. 90 minutes drive. Customs told me there was no duty on USA-made speakers, but there is GST/PST.
