They can either sink or swim depending on how well they can assemble a mix. Beatmatching is one of the first things a dj has to learn, and one of the easiest things. How can you gauge their talent on this? Great mixes can come from Serato, Cd decks, and turntables. Wether or not a d.j can see "the beat pattern, intro's,breakdown;s within a track" is not a deciding factor in how good he/she is. Although it does matter, i mean ofcourse beatmatching is very important. But its pretty much the first skill you need before you can work on the other more difficult dj skills like putting together wonderfully assembled sets, scratching, and mixing w/ the eq's.
