Douchebag politician cleans up commisioned graffiti.
Last Update: Wednesday, April 18, 2007. 12:12pm (AEST) Police to investigate ACT politician's graffiti stunt
The ACT's Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has asked the police to investigate if Liberal MLA Steve Pratt has broken the law by painting over a graffiti mural while proving a point about vandalism. On the weekend, Mr Pratt invited the media to watch him clean the mural at Woden which is believed to be a legal artwork commissioned by a local sporting club. Mr Pratt says Mr Stanhope is wrong and that the area isn't zoned for public art. "Even if it was legally commissioned artwork, it should not have been painted in an area that is not a designated art mural area," he said. "And secondly it is totally inappropriate for it to be placed on the entrance way to a cemetery which is a sacred and a serene place." Mr Stanhope says he has received advice that the artwork at Woden was a legal mural. "If Mr Pratt has breached the law particularly in the circumstance where he's demanding that the police arrest and make a public example of people who behave in the way that's now alleged that he in fact behaved [like] them." "I think it's only right that we follow through with this," he said. The sporting club that commissioned a mural painted over by Opposition MLA Steve Pratt says it's disappointed by his actions. But the Eddison Park Disc Golf Club says it commissioned the artwork some time ago to help promote its sport. The club's secretary Greg Sparksman says Mr Pratt should pay for the artwork to be replaced. "I just think we've got to stop some of this wrong vigilante action," he said. "If they want to do something there's a lot worse stuff that they can attack." Say it with me now...."WHAT A DOUCHE !" |
