I'm using a pair of Mackie HR824's:
(http://www.mackie.com/products/hr824/index.html) ...and a Tannoy sub on loan from a friend. When he comes back from Japan and wants his sub back, I will replace it with a Mackie HRS120: (http://www.mackie.com/products/hrs120/index.html). I too like to bring folks over and letting them play their favourite tracks on my system, just to watch them bliss out... :D Last edited by mux; Sep 23, 06 at 01:26 PM. |

^^ I need to hook up with those Mackies!
Well for casual listening on my computer it is a little 3-box (2.1) computer speaker system, by Harmon Kardon. Not the best mid/hi sound but it includes a sub which is excellent, adds incredibly to just about any music. For CDs/DVD/radio it is a pair of Paradigm Titans in the TV room or a pair of Paradigm Phantoms in the livingroom, both with Denon 50 watt stereo receivers. All this stuff is about 10 years old. Good general purpose sound but not a lot of bass. For the occasional DJin expedition it is a pair of Peavey PR15 speakers that have a compression driver (tweeter) and 15" woofer, on tripod stands and a 100W Yamaha amp (need to get a big pro amp). These sound good outside but are a bit much inside & I can hear a bit of coloration that bugs me. I'm using them now for DVD watching etc and DJ practice. The sound is clearer over all my house with these PA speakers, compared to the Paradigms, even at relatively low volumes. Selling the Peavies if anyone interested. Actually I'd like to get some monitors such as KRK RP6 with sub or maybe KRK RP8 as these are good for both DJ practice and house parties. PA speakers unless they are really high quality are overkill for the smaller house party, and unless you have a sub they don't have the bass we love. And a 15 or 18" PA sub is just too much in a house. Last edited by beedub; Sep 14, 06 at 10:08 AM. |

big concert speakers that take up half my living room.
I have no idea what kind they are, they have no marking on them in regards to a serial number or brand, but the subs are about 15" and could support sound for BC place. :P I'll post pics later. |

^^ Did you ever notice that the soundsystem at Honey (upstairs from Lotus) has about 15 Yorkville YSM-1P's mounted all along the ceiling? I don't know if they're still all hooked up or what, 'cause it hasn't sounded like it the few times I've been there, but I bet that place could sound *fantastic* with a bit of tweaking...

My housemate a few years ago built himself a *wicked* subwoofer system, with a 400-watt amp and a 15" cone, for his DJ rig and media setup. He's known for always having the system turned up too loud, so I was dreading the day he completed the sub project and put it into play - but to my surprise, the overall volume of his apartment went *down* a bunch! Thinking about it though, along with the Fletcher-Munson bit, it makes sense - he didn't have to turn it up so loud anymore just to hear the deep bass... |
