Which professional production software do you prefer?
Which professional production software do you prefer for producing electronic music? I included only the big guns in the poll but you can suggest others that are good.
I'm trying to figure out what I should buy for my PC. Unfortunately I don't have a Mac but I'd like to see how many people actually use Mac software. Has anyone heard of Cakewalk Kinetic 2? It's a pretty new dance music production suite, kinda like Fruity Loops, check it: http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/Kinetic/produce.asp I wouldn't use it thought but if anyone's ever used it, post your opinions on it. Oh and btw, Cubase 4 is just around the corner: http://www.steinberg.net/983+M52087573ab0.html Last edited by FireWire; Nov 16, 06 at 12:04 AM. |

I use Logic to compose (awesome integration of soft synths) and edit/mix in Pro Tools.
I use Macs and am quite happy with them. I use a G5 in the studio and use a G4 Powerbook (along with Ableton Live) for gigging. Have never had a problem (knock on wood!!!). |

love SX too. It makes for a really nice recording, syncing device given the proper source sounds.
Sometimes I get frustrated, but that's because I haven't worked hard enough to make my tracks professional. It's easy to look at software and blame it for its liimitations, but it's hard to face the fact that you are the real instument behind the creation. SX allows us to see that we have to go that extra step to be original. Programs like Reason are great for building up a track, they show us what we can achieve. Reason is not an inferior product, but it does take away from the creativity that could otherwise be achieved using more complex techniques. For instance, when I listen to a modular synth, playing beside a Roland Space Echo, I notice this organic quality of sound, this instument has a soul, its breathing and allowing the artist to really express their ability. Whereas, when I'm using something like Cubase or even softsynths, if I press a preset button, it completely changes the whole vibe of the song. Sometimes the change is good, A.K.A. happy accident, but most of the time I'm just dissapointed, like it wasn't my idea to write that pattern in the first place and I never would have chosen that congo and hihat had it not been for Redrum house pattern 2. So, I often get critisized for being an elitest jerk because I swear by analog synths, recording track by track, going to pro recording studios, and mastering overseas. However, given the competition that you as a producer are up against artists like; Josh Wink, Armand Van Helden, etc. You have to consider that they are not taking any shortcuts, they are paying top dollar in studios and getting professional assistance to create monster dance trax. So, if you think I'm being an asshole, please consider it tough love, I want you to succeed and I hope that you release quality music that represents the amazing people of Vancouver. Keep up the good work. |

I'm a die hard loyal Logic 7 user, compositing, mixing, 90% of production....mastering i tend to stick with Sound Forge 6....last version programmed by Sonic Foundry, I don't like the versions done by Sony....
But ya, Logic, with the Access Virus VST are my tools of choice! :y: |

Ableton Live 6 mostly with Pro Tools 7 occasionally. I love Ableton for its famed ease of use ive never been able to make the things in Pro Tools i can in Ableton however Ableton is weak on midi quantizing so i need somethin else, so far Pro Tools has been able to accomodate me midi wise just fine.
