I've been a loyal user of Sound Forge 6 for quite some time now, but was wondering what everyone else uses?
Is there something better or comparable?
thanks folks

Bias Peak - I'd use Soundforge or wavelab if it was available for mac.

speaking of which, what else is out there for Mac? (don't say audacity cause it's sorely lacking in some real features).

What do you guys use your sound editors for?

I do the odd fade in or out to get rid of the click and pops. And touch of cutting stuff up.

Any other uses?

i use soundforge religiously. 6.0 all the way (don't use 7.0) i use it for cutting samples, looping parts of tracks, and pretty much all wave manipulation. i also use it for encoding, as i usually want to edit something before encoding.

ditto.

lately Ive come across some really fantastic samples (the content) but really poor quality recordings - very skratchy/fuzzy.
I don't know what the best way of fixing this is, thats why I'm curious of what the best audio editor is.

well, in that case its really a plug in you are looking for, and most editors will be compatable with waves bundles etc. but tbh, the best way to clean up the sample is to find a better one. "you can't polish a turd"

I use sound forge 8 for audio combined with Vegas 6 for video. Soundforge 8 is pretty tight, but ver 6 is still the popular choice.

They integrate with each other seamlessly. My primary concern however is the video aspect, so I cant offer a 'professional' opinion regarding the audio here.

I'm using soundforge 8 for:
- cleaning up samples (using my VSTs and DX's)
- Generating pure sub tones
- extracting samples from audio files

I use Cooledit/Adobe audition for:
- Noise, click pop removal
