Cubase Help
im looking for a better way to sequence drums.
i had used reason for years prior to getting cubase, so im really comfortable with REDRUM. ive gotten quite hady at using it to start my pattern off then meesing with it in the seqencer. ive been using rewire but it just doesnt cut it. trying to seqence a drum loop on the piano, with no beat reference is a bitch. i know this isnt the only way to get drums in the program so how do you do your drums?? and no im not into importing pre fabbed loops, i like designing my own. any help is great :) while im posting on the topic....if anyone into producing (and breakbeats) is down to get together and write some toons or just compare notes, i have a decent studio and would like the company |

well there's a drum editor? just keep a loop of 8/16 bars or whatever and you can just click on/off the notes for the different drum pieces all in 1 window (if you're using the midi drums lm7/lm4 or whatever.)
Me personally, I have a keyboard full of kick samples, then snare/claps, then hats etc, so I have like 4 battery kits open and just keep a loop going and do 1 layer at a time with the midi board. I find it pretty easy, never used reason so I wouldn't know. Do you have battery? Or do you just use midi drums? What do you mean by no reference? Metronome is all I need. Id collab a beat witcha but I live in Vic hah. |

Damn I never thought of that ^ .. I should try that, sequencin with cubase alone can be sorta tedious sometimes. Hey weren't you gunna send me ur breaks tracks mr shaun , are they MC'able or like raver busy stylez?
Btw I just made such a sick breaks track.. ill show when its done. |

wow thanx for the input guys!!
PMed :) i guess thats the problem with getting really used to one program and triing to learn another....old habbits die hard :P yeah i use the Metronome when i need aswell, but im really used to the grid of the sequencer in reason. mayeb there is a trick to it that i just havent learned yet. ive been producing for close to 5 years, on reason, but im still a virgin to cubase and VST's, hence asking for help and colaberation and such :) thanx agian |

Kelly,
I would strongly suggest Kontakt, map your drum sounds over a keyboard, and record them live, I tend to do that quite a bit lately, if needed you can always step record (punch in over top of prev recorded tracks) which is also another really popular way of sequencing drum sounds. Good alternative to matrix sequencing, if that's not ur thing. Hope that helps man. |
