Pioneer DJM Convo
I'm sooo sick of my vestax. It's fun to scratch with but it doesn't suit my style of mixing. I ended up with my pmc05 pro when TOM LEE (those mother fuckers) fucked over my DJM707.
Well, I want to go back to Pioneer. There's so much new stuff out there! What would you get? 2 Channels (DJM 400, 707, 909?) or 4 channels (DJM 500, 600 or 800 *drool*)? I know that when it comes down to it, it's price. But what would you go with considering bang for buck? And why? |

I know you want a pioneer... but I would strongly consiter an Ecler Nuo 5. Its about the same price as a DJM-600, matches scratch capabilities of any battle mixer you throw at it, and matches or beats Allen & Heath for sound quality.
I know Akeel and many others will vouch for it.... I always like to switch my gear (5 mixers in the past 3 years) and in all honesty, will NOT be replacing this with anything. When I bought mine, I didnt have the opportunity to try it out before hand since there arent too many around but I swear on all my gear that once you go Ecler, you wont go back! Eclers are solid. There are one or two design kinks that I don't really like but they might have addressed them by now.
The newer line of pioneers are pretty good - they addressed some of the annoyances of the previous generation - I have a 707 myself which is a fantastic mixer. If you have the cash, Rane's are great too... Last edited by dj_soo; Apr 22, 07 at 06:36 PM. |

i have a 600, i love it.
i like it more than any other mixer i've used(havent touched an 800 yet), its solid, proven, dosn't look or feel cheap. i do a lot of tricks with the effects when im fucking around at home so it always keeps me busy trying new things. cost me an arm and a leg when i bought it 2 years ago but i'd say its been worth it having it. I only mix vinyl =j
But that's why i'm considering a 4 channel mixer. Maybe I can throw a cdj into the package or throw my laptop into another line so I can listen to mp3's and videos too. Right now 2 channels doesn't feel like it's cutting it. But it's another $600 at least on top. I love the 600. It's the industry standard in my opinion. But I haven't used an ecler. The 800 at cyber is sick. Super sensitive and responsive. Dope interface and the effects are compact and easy to use & pick up on the fly. But it's not old news yet so it's like $1600 used! If I could land a djm600 for closer to $500 i'd get that as my third mixer. |

i've used every single high end mixer in existence, and for sound quality (despite the fact i rep ecler) you can't touch Rane, Ecler or A&H.
Pioneer stepped up the mixer game quite a bit with the 800, but to keep the price point comparable to the 600 they couldnt include a sampler, which is largely still the greatest selling factor of the 600...not to mention its been the industry standard for close to ten years. The 600 IMO does sound like a big pile of shit; its very distinct and processed. Once you try something with better sound quality you won't go back believe me. Nuo-5 definately blew the 600 out of the water, but the new Evo5 with integrated soundcard EVO by Ecler is next level...and the price point is probably going to be cheaper then the DJM-800. If anyone wants i'm letting my 600 go for 1000 bux including the flight case! |

A&H does have great sound. And you see XONES out there every once in a while. but i don't like the feel or how the interface works at all on most models.
Adam, what if i want 3 tracks playing at the same time? the 4th channel is just a luxury. I should probably stick to 2 channels though. I'll have to try out your RANE and see what all the hype is about. Akeel you promo whore. When're you going to show me what an ECLER is all about? |

800's are SICK. Seriously looking into saving and picking one up... like Akeel, that means I may be selling my 600 in due time.
As much as I would switch to a Ecler, Rane or even an A&E, a 600 (and now the 800s already) are starting to be the 1st request on ALL talent/DJ ryders. |

I've never really liked the feeling of the Pioneers.... or the sound for that matter...
I agree with most of the cats in this thread: A&H, Rane, Ecler or Urei... all depending on what you're looking for. I personally don't do the A&H, but i know they're solid, i've just had bad experiences. If you're looking for a basic mixer that'll do everything, i suggest the Rane TTM-56 or the Empath.... |

the 56 is fantasic but if you're not looking to scratch, you're better off with something more club-oriented. I've played on an Urei and frankly, I wasn't too impressed. Good sound tho... |
