guitar and trumpet recording and soundproofing...

making some sick chill-out/trancey tracks with my guitar at the moment using guitar rig and ableton 6. starting to come together very well.

i used to be in a jazz band for 2 years and would love to dust off the od trumpet and start fusing some trumpet aspects and stabs with breaks and such. what is the best way to record that kind of sound? there are mics that clip on the front that ive seen but i dunno where to get them.

my new house has a walk in closet that is being transformed into mah studio. whats the cheapest way to soundproof something like that. its about 15x20 feet and has a low hanging ceiling.

i was thinging about stapling pillows and blanket all around for the time being lol

any handyman tips would be appreciated

if your going thata way with it make sure to hang the blankets half a foot from the wall as thats where the sound should be trapped in between the blanket and wall. The idea is to build a room inside a room and the space in between them catches the sound.

I've seen old egg carton things used on walls before. Go down to your local brunch place and ask to pick through what they toss out for ones that aren't to messy, that could work.

Another trick I heard about but don't really know how effective it is was from a landlord of mine. He hung sheet metal in the walls of a duplex to cut down on the noise between units. It seemed to work well as lived in the place for 2 years, was noisy with 5 other roommates (6 am bedtime type noisy) and never got a complaint or heard the neibours. The important thing about this design is that the metal is heavy and free to move (hung only at the top).

My gut says use a first layer that can swing, thick blankets are a good idea, to cover the egg cartons.
