M44-G styli on M44-7?

It's time to replace the styli on my Shure M44-7 carts and was just wondering if the M44-G styli (model #N44G) would fit properly.
They're essentially the same cart, though the 44G tracks with a slightly lower weight and is less shrill than the 447.
Would it be wrong to assume that the 447/44G bodies are the same and that the differences really fall on the styli?
As I wouldn't mind a lower tracking force and a warmer sound, not to mention there's a bunch of 44G styli in stock locally, and only one 447.

You are correct - same housing, different needle.

Enjoy!

Yup. The styli are interchangable. Just keep in mind though that it is easier to put too much weight on a 44-G seeing that the tracking force range is pretty small. (.75g-1.5g). Luckily, when you change the styli the weight difference is nigh, so you don't have to re-zero the arm.

I've had the M44-G styli on my carts for several days now; they do sound warmer, and less shrill.
And I've dropped the tracking force to 1.5g and haven't had a skip.
Thanks for all the help.

Yeah the M44-Gs sound better for sure. (no pun intended). If anything, you should use those for live performances and recordings and the M44-7 styli for battling.
