VJ software/hardwdare recommendations?
I am really interested in combining both my audio and visual art for the purpose of live multimedia performances. I've looked into it a little bit, but this is very fresh to me.
I'd like the visuals to be focused on the manipulation of video clips ( less focus on the 3d cgi psychedelic-art ) ... that I can trigger/control using midi controllers. also, is there a plugin or program for this kind of software that allows for visual editing parameters to be controlled by an audio input (the music)? ie the sound input can effect the colour or shape of the clip etc. |

Resolume was the best for me
BeatHarness - free VJ software Its meant to played without lots of user input, just audio input.
VIRTUAL DJ SOFTWARE - MP3 Mixing Software This is for you to have video clips controlled by midi controller, its also hooks into a dvs system I think. I haven't used those two, i've used resolume after going through a mass of programs, after trying alot of programs i stuck with resolume. The ability to use video clips and flash files is great, vector graphics that are math based without time limit is great, it also supports midi input. Live video with a camera can be cool. It scan audio for effects, even moves clips to scratching. It also has some networking for two computers to by synced, i never played with that feature tho. Resolume VJ Software - Live Digital Motion Graphics its fairly easy to pirate so you can try before you buy. I also played around with a tokyo dive midi controller for afew min some weeks back. It seems alittle too simple and the audio support was really lacking in the program. I really liked resolume when i used it, has lots potential, long as you have a powerful comp with lots of ram. Also check List of VJ software - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia for a full list of vj software. |

Kris is right, i did play with it for a short time, firstly it wasn't very stable, the setup also isn't as powerful and seems to be aimed at using your keyboard mostly. Doesn't have near the features of resolume.

okay awesome. so I take it Resolume can be considered an industry standard for VJing?
this saves me shitloads of time wasted on trying out/learning software. In a perfect world I'd be able to instantly transfer my imagination to a media format without all of the monkeying around it takes to find(and then learn) the right medium. |

Thats the problem, there is no industry standard, its all pretty diverse.
checkout VJForums.com - Powered by vBulletin thats the place to go with these questions if your serious about all this. Ps. I assumed your running windows, if you run mac alot of people recommend Modul8 VJ software Last edited by Drazkers; Nov 05, 07 at 11:15 PM. |

cool ill check that out.
ya man I am very serious about this stuff. I'll be using a majority of my own visual art, and probably hit up my other artist friends for visual material. I'm not that interested in the psychedelic eyecandy type stuff. My idea is to create a living art gallery that I can manipulate in real time. The music enhancing what is seen on the screen, and the visuals enhancing what is heard from the music... working hand in hand. The effect I want is something that you can stand back and scratch your chin as if viewing an art exhibit, but at the same time makes you want to dance. An all encompassing multimedia experience that forces the audience to look inside themselves and at the outside world at one point, and then jumping up and down and screaming the next point. I want to create a sense of birth and death. and then rebirth. i have a vision ha ha |
