gear noob
Looking for a drum machine, tired of doing it all in reason.. takes up a lot of my time. I create weird loops and add fills.
My question, A: can someone reccomend me a drum machine? and B: can i use it with reason, or do i compile it with a different program once im done the reason portion? |

^ quit reason or don't re-wire and move into a proper sequncer. Then use Kontak, or Battery. If you find reason slow, you would be moving backwards with a drum machine, you are also limited to the sounds of drum machine, with the samplers you have all the sounds in the world to work with.

I found some good software drum machines man.
http://www.d16.pl/index.php?menu=2 they have a d16 and a 909. The distortion module they have looks killer! The GUIs they use just won't work on my aging p4 1 gig ram. AudioRealism Drum Machine (ADM) AudioRealism has a drummachine that has sounds from the 606, 808, 909. This probly would run well on my machine, and I bet it sounds great. |

download sample packs, www.audionews.ru has a billion .. then use a sampler like battery and load a keyboard full of drum hits. i probably have like.. thousands of drum samples.
you also get fills and loops that you can layer and cutup to create unique rhythms/loops super easy. |

First, let me congratulate on discovering that Reason is crap. There are quite few alternatives so I will try to make it brief.
Hardfloor might not tour with a 909, but they sure as hell use it in their studio. If you have $1000+ to spend on a drum machine, the Roland TR-909 is a fantastic choice (TR-606 & TR-808 are excellent too) However, technology has make it possible to own an analog drum machine for much cheaper. Jomox has some great drum machines, as does Elektron, Quasimidi, and believe it or not the commodore 64!! Check out the new MSSIAH! If you don't like MIDI and want to step program, then the I recommend the Quasimidi Rave-o-lution 309. The price is good on eBay and the drums are solid. Softsynths are another alternative, albeit a flawed alternative imho; You've heard about Battery and the other NI plug-ins. Battery is pretty cool, it has some great features if you don't mind the learning curve and working with sample playback. We can all thank the H20 team 4 the free software cracks. YouTube - H20 SYNCROSOFT TEASER Drumazon is a nice looking plug-in, but seems difficult to program. Overall, the choices are plentiful and only limited by your cash flow. Good luck. |
