Midi Foot Controllers
i been shoppin around for a new toy lately/I've been fascinated with the thought of incorperating a foot controller into my setup.
Could any of you fellow studio geeks recommend a prime item? So far,. I've looked at the behringer one fcb1010, but am a little aprehensive about purchasing anything behringer because of all the obvious flakc the company recieves. This product fits my price range. Has anyone tried this or the Yamaha MFC10???? thanks yall |

well, if you're handy with a soldering iron, you can put one together really cheaply that'll do everything you want it to...
how do you see yourself incorporating foot pedals? are you just looking for triggers (ie, clip starts, transport controls, etc), or are you more interested in expression pedals (filter cutoff, wah-wah, etc). |

I was hoping for a controller with maybe an expression pedal or two, plus triggers. or perhaps one foot controller with the expression pedals, and another just for the triggers. I think I would use it mostly for playin samples,or turnin on/off effects. Since i'd do most the expression type stuff (filters etc.) with my uc-33e and oxygen by hand. but ya, idealy a foot controller with both triggers and expression pedals is what im huntin for. I'm also interested in the route of building one also now that you mention it. I haven't done it before, but the option to build custom controllers sounds pretty sweet. hmm - well, there's kits out there for ucapps.de stuff, I've picked up a few and they're pretty simple to put together. It's kind of like adult lego. :)
http://www.ucapps.de - for your controller you'd need a "core" module (the brains), a "din" module ('digital input', ie buttons), and an 'ain' module ('analogue input', ie knobs/sliders/pedals). Build the parts, test them, then it's just a matter of attaching knobs and buttons and putting it all in a sturdy box. It can be a really fun project if you're into that sort of thing. Music shops sell cheap expression pedals for like $20, but if you open them up they're just a potentiometer inside, so a couple of those could be mounted on a custom board no problem. Browse the ucapps site a bit, you'll get some ideas. :) |
