pros:
its a beast
really beautiful atmospheric sound

cons:
its a beast
i use it with cubase and it crashes every now and then
automation with it is kind of limited compared to other synths of its size/nature

definitely check it out....i use it every now and then, but its not my go-to synth for sure.

I have a copy of Absynth, and now I am seriously considering taking some kind of sound engineering course. I didn't know what I was getting into.
I understand that there is an Absynth 3 tutorial DVD out there. That might be a good place for me to start.
The soundbank that comes with Absynth sure is nice. I sat in my living room for 6 hours tweaking some of the sounds from the library. Hours of fun.

absynth is really nice.
i hardly ever use it tho because it eats up the cpu like no tomorow, and I hate bouncing tracks.

^ i run it on windows xp with 1.6g processor with 512mb ram

Standalone my computer can handle it, but not simultaneously with like 24 other channels for samplers/synths/ fx .

not saying anything new... but absynth is good for pads, atmospheres, and trippy sequences (if you can figure out the envelopes) but not really a good for the meat and potatoes of a track (drums/bass/etc)

a lot better than absynth 2 though... they did a lot to make the program functionality easier to use...

If someone bought Absynth 3 for making drums/bass etc, then it's possible they bought a cheeseburger to change their oil too
It is one difficult piece of ware to master, that's for sure.

yeah...i'm just starting to use it more. it is pretty hard to get around.

i run it with Logic 7.2 on a Powermac G5 Dual 2.7 with 2 gigs of ram. it runs pretty slick...no problems. i also use Pro tools but i haven't tried running it in that...but i don't do much virtual synth work in Pro Tools.

I dont like it very much but if i made chill out music i wouldnt be without it. I would use spectrasonics atmosphere in a pinch if i needed that kinda sound. 32bit precision all the way.

I'm running it on a P4 @ 3.0 ghz, 1 GB ram and it runs smooth, inline with several other programs at that.

I don't think Absynth is limited to chill out music dude. That's like using an accoustic guitar for playing only Country songs.

I didnt say it was limited to only chill out music, I said thats what I would be using it for. Its presets are mainly limited to atomsphereic sounds pads leads and fx i dont think it would be my first choice for much else. (imo)

come now come now, do we not know anything about systhisis?

abysynth (when using FACTORY PRESETS) is good for pads and such. but why not just struggle with it for a few weeks and learn how to use a synth properly? i've made some heavey reese's with absynth and recently discovered it' true power, friggin amazing VST.

P.S. those worreyd about cpu usage should make the sound in it's own session then bounce out 2 octaves or so then import into konakt, then chop and loop all the audio inside kontakt and save the insturment there. much easyer that way :)

edit : you think absynth is heavy, get into reaktor 5
