buying dj set up
k, so here i am, really really wanting a set up so i can learn to spin, i already play bass guitar and electric guitar so i have a decent sense of music and how it works, the only problem is i know very little except that direct drive is what i need and that tech 1200's are teh standard, but i also know they are quite pricey, and plus a mixer and speakers it would be psuhing $2500, my question is if anyone has any suggestions for me as to how to get a set up? should i just save up for however long and get the best of the best stuff or is there a cheaper way to still have quality items? any suggestions on starting up would be great, thanksssss.

ok this is what I did and it worked well for me.
defintely buy your tables used, tech 12's of any model, you can get a pair for around a grand in near perfect condition if you keep your eyes open (always posts here). Buying used is the best cuz they have a great life expectancy and you can turn around and sell them for the same price you bought them for because they hold their value. If you buy new decks, you will lose 50% when you sell them again. Just make sure you buy 1200's. For the mixer, you can get a good starter mixer for around 300- 400 bucks new. I was told to buy mine new because they are cheap enough when you are just starting out. Plus you don't have to worry about the crossfader wearing out really soon as long as you know what you are buying. Speakers, I just used my bookshelf stereo for my first 8 months. I didn't care because I had tables and I was spinning records and had already thrown down 1000 for my tables, and 400 for my mixer. Later you can buy something good, but you probobly won't care for the first 6 months anyway because you will be so into learning how to beatmatch and mix. So there you go. It worked for me and only cost 1400 bucks. The real cost comes with the records though....black crack! |

ebay ebay ebay.
you'll be saving yourself around 40% off of the new price from a store. do not buy them new. waste of $. tech's are good but the numark ttx 1's have a lot of features that the techs dont have, and are just as good in quality. word up to slick dick, black crack kills your bank account. |

900 for 4 year old techs is a good price...4 years old in nothing. Just make sure they aren't beat up and are in good condition. One thing to think about with the older models though is the pitch control. I have a pair of mk2 about 5 years old. The pitch contol is kinda sticky so it takes a little extra to get your record perfectly in...kinda got a flick it. My buddy has 1 year old mk3's and it slides in perfect everytime. Good luck
