Depo shot

Anyone have any info on it? Anyone on it right now? How do you like it?

I'm thinking of getting this rather than the pill cuz condoms aren't fun...They could break, and THAT is an experience in itself that isn't fun to go through.

Anyone know the side effects? or where I can find some more info on it?

your doctor might know a bit about them....
seeing as they're the ones that administer them.
Try asking a specialist rather than a bunch of partykids.

I just figured maybe a few people on this board might be on the shot, so I wanted to know what side effects they experienced, so it's first hand info, and not from a doctor who might never have been on it.

the doctors will know what side effects are possible for you to have because the shot if obviously tested on patients before its put on the market...
and hun if you want to know more about it im sure you could find a friend that you could talk to rather than some stranger on a message forum. just a little advice from me.

p.s. i know a few girls that have them and im sure they'd be more than willing to answer your questions

Just a side note, my friend is on the shot, and she rarely gets her period anymore... just spots here and there... gawd, what I wouldn't give for that... *lol*

just go to your doctor or to the youth clinic..lots of info their..

miska ~ y'know i was talking 2 my sis and she was telling meeh.. there's a birth control pill you can take that'll make you NOT GET YOUR PERIOD AT ALL!!! haha oh my how much i want that one...hehe

hmm...but on the other hand if yoo dont get yor period at all! how do you know if yor not pregnant or not without getting tested!?
thats why i wouldnt mind getting a few drops here and there its better than the full out thing... and its assuring to know i dont have some kid growing inside of me ;)

ya... but it would keep you from getting pregnant! Cuz when you get your period your shedding the lining of hte uterus after releasing an egg. if you're not getting your period, therefore not releasing any eggs, how could u get pregnant? the egg needs to be fertilized by the sperm for anything to happen.. but how can all happen if there is no egg there in the first place?

basically, its a shot you get from your doctor (or you can get it for free at youth health clinic thingies). it's over 99% effective, and it lasts for 3 months

it prevents pregnancy, but not std's. i think its way better than the pill, cuz i tend to forget things (like taking the pill... BAD)

what else... side effects include weight gain in some cases, so your doctor will advise you to eat healthy and not consume extra calories.. just cut back on things like fruit juice (( so good, but full of hidden calories!!)). other side effects are similar to the pill. my doctor told me that if you are okay on the pill, like no crazy side effects, you'll be okay on depo.

the only bad thing about it is, if you do have side effects, there is nothing you can do about it, because once depo is in your system, you can't get it out for the 3 months it is effective. But, when you go to get it, your doctor/youth clinic person will tell you if it's the right choice for you and ask you a bunch of questions

you can get way more information on the website, i don't know what the address is, but just go to a search engine and look up "depo provera"

if u enroll..then u get it free for a year..
but you have to ONLY rely on it...in order to fullfill the study.

well
i was basically just gunna tell ya that.
it rocks cuz ur free of ur period, but it can give crazy side effects, like bleedin all the time
umm, yea, its good if u have a bad memory -as oppose to pills i mean- but u gotta be sure u can get to a clinic or ur doctor evry 13-16 weeks. it takes 3 weeks to start workin, just like evrything else. but its 99% effective just like the pill
so yea, it is a good idea, but i kinda think of it as more permanent than the pill since the pill only lasts so long....
