Drugs an Diabetes.

Does anyone know how drugs (mainly class C's) affect people with diabetes. Cuz I know that when diabetics drink alcohol is lowers there blood sugar and they have to eat to counteract it, but Im not sure about drugs and at 14 years old I cant really go to my doctor and ask him lol :smoke1:

If you really don't know, you shouldn't do drugs then. They're not worth the risk.

Otherwise, ask a doctor. Doesn't necessairly have to be your family doctor. You can talk to others, and there is patient-doctor confidentiality so they can't go telling your parents. And most wouldn't, especially if it's not your family doctor.

^^^ the confidentiality starts at the age of 18...if you're not 18 the doctor has every right to go back to your parents.

and danshrew....you're 14 for fucks sake.
grow up ...please. its not worth doing drugs if u have diabetes.
but please...just seriously grow up...you're so young...enjoy your teenage years...you're just barely a teen.

drugs just aren't healthy period.

think about this, when one consumes a drug of any sort the point would be to distorn they're mind, or achieve a goal somewhere around the general area. when this happens, your mind frame changes, you crave things, you do things that you wouldnt normally do while sober. this could be trouble.

i wouldnt take that risk ... but thats myself.

actually alcohol has tons of sugar.. so you basically get really high and your body pisses it out.. then it pisses too much sugar out then you get low. It can be hard to control.

I've heard of some nightmare cases with Diabetes and e. You can't tell if your good, or too low. Your basically knocking 5-10 years off your life.

well im diabetic and i have done e several times....i know it was probably the wrong decision...and i actually was diagnosed with diabeties as i was going through my partying drug stage in my life which was about 2 summers ago now.... ummmm all i can say is that yah you are only 14, but hey i know i was out there when i was 15 so ultimatly you make your own choice right....but how bad is your diabetes? do u take insulin??? i do....and well i bring my blood sugar checker with me all the time when im at a party, just in case, and i let all my friends know..and i tell them if im acting really really fucked up then i need sugar....sooo that means juice,...and i usually carry some form of sugar with me, and i usually think my blood sugar is really low...but for some reason everytime i check it when i think it is low..it is usually high, so its weird i think it makes your blood sugar higher from my experience...but hey everyone is different..anyways be careful, no one can really make up your mind but your self, but please be carefull and follow your heart and make the right decision...im not gunna tell u not to do it...becuz i would be a hipocrit but yah ...all i do have to say is...dont over do it !!! please...cuz that willl really mess u up.....only take like half or one at the most...no more than that!!!!!!!! but i hope you decide not to do it ....cuz it just fucks u up anyways not just cuz you are diabetic...just becuz it fucks people up!

it's not that alcohol has tons of sugar, it just causes insulin and other substances the lower blood glucose levels to work harder which could lead to hypoglycemia.

yes and no

I've been a type one diabetic on a minimum of two injections a day for the last 12 years. I have been djing/ partying for the last 7 years and have yet to touch amphetamines. Directly because I am a diabetic. Diabetes is a condition where the body doesn’t produce the hormone that we need to absorb the glucose from the food we eat. You liver has a lot to do with this whole system; it is the main reason you can physically feel if you blood sugar is too high or too low.

The number one danger with booze and diabetes is the fact that if you liver is dealing with the alcohol it won’t warn you if you have a low blood sugar…..BAD

The other is us diabetics have to spend every day balancing what we eat with our activity level and insulin dose. Booze is loaded with calories…

One can of beer = 45g carbohydrates = three slices of bread
14g fat = two teaspoons of butter

One case of beer = fuck you and your blood sugar levels up
real good.

Yes I do drink. According to my activity level and what I’ve already eaten.

The last thing, I repeat the last thing you should do is take extra insulin so that you can drink.

If you drink liver won’t worry about your glucose level. The extra insulin along with the booze will make you go hypoglycimic

As far as everything else we do to entertain our selves, none of it is really good for you. As a diabetic you know what can happen to you after a couple of years of not taking care of your self. On top of the blindness, loss of feeling and kidney failure the last thing that I want is to not be able to get it up when I’m thirty because I didn’t care and like to get fucked up when I was younger. I know what’s wrong with me and I have chosen to take care of my self. Truly is probably the main reason I haven’t gotten all sketchy and k ‘ed out and fallen off the planet after a year of partying.

Anyway sorry about the book but I felt I needed to clear up a few miss conceptions.
For the rest of the diabetics on this site……

Let’s meet up and shoot up! :284:

that's type I diabetes. there's also type II, in which case, your body's beta cells are functional and produce insulin but your body becomes resistant to it.

Just your comment about alcohol not being full of sugar. Even the cleanest spirits are full of fat.

who cares about what a medical professional would know. just go to a messageboard packed full of drug users and ask them. oh since your 14, my one piece of advice, don't do a cap, then bust a line, then smoke some jib, then drink a mick, then smoke an 1/8th. or else we'll be talking about you about 3 hours after you're in the news. also i WILL laugh at you if you die.

I got type 1 diabetes just last august. my body was honestly running down..i had lost about 25 pounds in a period of 4 months, was drinking Tons of water and eating so much and didn't really notice until people started to worry so i got tested. at this point i was partying quite a bit and doing the occasional pill. once i found out i made the decision that i didn't want to E anymore. i made this decision because i wanted to get healthy again and back to normal. i was also afraid that if i did do drugs i would forget to take my medecine, or not check my blood or not realize that my levels were to high or to low. it was really hard for me to adjust to this whole thing but it was the best thing that i've ever done. i feel good and healthy and i'm not upset with my body anymore. This is the choice that i made and i know everyone is different. i think you should decide for yourself but honestly i think you should realize that if you get fucked up sometimes it can be beyond your control to remember to do things like check your blood sugar and make sure everything is ok. doing drugs makes your body weaker and because of your diabetes your immune system isn't as strong as the everyday normal person (and i'm not saying that someone who doesn't have diabetes can handle drugs either).
i find it when i drink i get a lot of low blood sugars. even when i'm drinking beer! i definatly stay away from the cocktails because of all the sugary syrups and what not. not all liquor has TONS of sugar in it. a lot of hard bar is very low in sugar for example: crown royale .i usually stick with drinks like rum and diet cokes. my tolerance for alcohol is so much lower then it used to be. i always make sure i have juice in my bag just in case and my friends are always watching out for me always asking me if i'm ok and if i've checked my sugar levels and everything.
i just want you to be careful. you are young and need to understand that your body and your health is way more important than getting fucked up at a rave.

soma: i have a chart from my docter and it says beer is 18 g of carb per can. i believe of course that some beers have different carb count but where did you get 45 gr per can from? unless my chart is way off?

Im not talking about e or any stuff like that. Ive had my drink spiked with LSD's before, and that f00ked up my sugar level, :toasted: so Im not gunna touch anything like that again. I mean more like just the occasional joint, nothing serious just an occasional blast of weed or draw :smoke1:

sorry, my assumption was that even though alcohol contains a lot of calories, I assumed most of those calories came from alcohol (1 g alcohol=7 calories) rather than from carbohydrates (1 g carb=4 calories) and that "alcohol" did not refer only strictly to beer.

--Joanne :P

PS. what does having a lot of fat have to do with being full of sugar?

everyone has neglected to note that alcohol causes diuresis, which can lead to wacky concentrations of all the substances in blood plasma... alright...n/m...this is pointless

if i can do it, so can you.

ask snyx- i still go off the wall at parties :284:

it's not *really* pointless. by definition, diabetics who go untreated also have an increase in diuresis and if he/she drinks alchohol, I think it would cause them to be extremely dehydrated.

but assuming that you're a diabetic who's taking your insulin shots properly and carefully regulating blood glucose levels, I don't think you'd be anymore dehydrated than a non-diabetic who's been drinking alcohol.

--Joanne :P

PS. I think that's cool that you don't drink or do drugs either... STRAIGHT EDGE BOOKWORMS UNITE!

^^ for sure!!
we might have more in common than we'd like to admit :)

btw- by saying my rant was pointless, i was just noting that this 14 y/o kid doesnt need anymore science to tell him its bad to use drugs. i thought he might benefit more by hearing that people like you and I really can have fun at parties drug/alcohol free :)
