yup. it's called menstrual suppression.
www.noperiod.com for general info. I personally look down on people who do things without looking into it themselves, or taking the intiative to educate themselves FIRST before doing something that could be potentially harmful to their body.. but wutever. About mentstrual suppression:
If you're on a triphasal pill (as in one that has a different level of estrogen each week), you can't just skip the sugar pills and start on a new pack. You have to start on the third week of pills on the new back for the whole thing to work. If you're not sure about what kind of pill you're on, you should phone the 1-800 number on the box and a nurse will answer your questions. |

I would hardly let an internet msg board make choices for me and my ovaries, but I value any input that might be helpful in my desicion making process and I thank everyone (even rawb) for their two cents :) |

^for sure, pondering the idea is one thing, but when it comes to your own personal health I'm not really all for people who do something cause they heard it worked for some one else. You'd be surprised at how many people don't take the intiative to research things on their own, but rather jump to the conclusion that something could be right for them beause they want immediate results.
besides, i would look down on that kind of behaviour from any one, regardless of male or female, and I wasn't specifically referring to you. diva... as for the triphasic pills..for sure. It still kind of worked for me, but not so effectively after a while.. i'm thinkin of switching back to demulen. I wondered about that before as well and read somewhere that it's better to use monophasic pills, but i couldn't find info anywhere on why it wouldn't be as effective on triphasic pills. Can you explain it to me Dr. Esi? :) -eager menstrual suppressor. |

^ Where did you read that monophasic pills are more effective? I'm puzzled because I don't understand why that would be...? If anything, I would think that triphasic pills would be more effective because they mimic the hormone levels in your body. That's just my theory.
You're on Demulen? I just switched to Demulen last week because it contains less estrogen than Ortho Tri-cyclen. And I never did the whole menstrual suppression pill when I was on Tri-cyclen because I thought it was a waste of money to only use the third week of pills. This website helped me out when I was tryign to figure out which pill to switch to: http://www.wdxcyber.com/ncontr13.htm Sorry I wasn't very much help. :kimmie: |

^^
monophasic isn't necessarily better than triphasic, nor are they always more or less potent. I mean, alesse is monophasic but contain lower total amounts of estrogen and progestin and is also less potent than a lot of other triphasic pills (ie. tri-cyclen). I remember this because my doctor was originally going to put me on alesse, but I opted to go for tri-cyclen because I was super-duper-paranoid that a less potent pill may increase my chances of pregnancy. but I have heard that there's more endometrial proliferation with most triphasic pills. maybe that's why some people think it's not as good? --Joanne :P Last edited by Joanne; Jul 17, 03 at 12:06 PM. |

i made a trip to the clinic to ask all info on it already...she just didn't mention the exact name that you said. i have to get everything checked up before i take anything or do anything different to my body, because im sensitive to a lot of medication and changes. yoko..dont look down on me. |

esi, no i didn't mean as in more effective for preventing pregnancy, i meant for menstrual suppression. I'm not QUITE sure the exact words that were written down by I seem to remember an article suggesting that monophasic pills would be better to use rather than triphasics ie. tricyclen.. i don't quite know why, i'll have to look into that again.
joanne, can you explain to me that endo proliferal blah blah thing u just mentioned.. bebu, most clinics don't encourage menstual suppresion cause it's a waste of money on their part. You'd be taking more pills than you would require within a period of a year and techinically you would be using up about 3 more pill packages than you would in a year, so i dunno what clinic you went to. Either way, if not down on you, i'll be looking which ever way I want, thanks. And as for the defensive reply, if you had noticed my post reads that I look down on people who don't take the initiative to research things for the benefit of their own health, and nothing will change that opinion of mine. If you took it personally to target you, than that says more about yourself than of me. But as you have claimed, I'm sure that you did take your own initiative. |

i have only heard bad things about it from first hand expereinces but there are alot of promised benefits, if you jsut dont want to hav your period, you can do that with simple run of the mill birth control
by the way on that note if anyone is taking some pill called numero 777 or something like that (i know it has a 777) the pills were mis-packaged, and because of the misorder of the pills it actually increases your risks of pregnancy instead of inhibiting them. I dunno i saw it on the news, and it scare the fuck outta my because thats pretty much what i rely on (my pills) and the company who makes the tainted pills is not requiring the pharmacies to call their patients!!!!! so if u are on it go get tested |

whao..
i agree with you that it's not right for people to take medication or change medication without researching about it, it is just not right.....same with illegal substances. i just got pretty defensive when you targetted to me because it sounded like i dont care shit about my body.....i care about my body a lot and having things going in and changing my body is a big deal for me...and recently i found out i have a bunch of medication taht im allergic to that i didn't know about. from the sounds of hearing about other youth clinics, the youth clinic in richmond is EXTREMLY supportive on things.. i go there for other councilling problems too and i have a wonderful relationship with one of the nurses. of course they are not going to ENCOURAGE menstral suppression... but i did ask details about it, because as a girl sometimes it's much needed....and it doesn't hurt to know more information. |

^ St John's wor tis something you should do research on beofre you start taking it - because it effects a lot of other drugs..
Just cause something is herbal doesn't make it safe... it's a darn shame lots of people have to learn that the hard way |
