I think that means that 26 percent of people who have aids are heterosexual females, though i may be wrong...
On another note, i think the education system needs to focus alot more on spreading knowledge about sex and drugs (ie. if your going to do it, do it safe) rather then trying to prevent it completly and ignore the fact that in many cases it will go on anyway. |

Actually.. sex Ed fuckin sucks ass.
Funneh thing is.. in my school I never did get to learn about it. or atleast I didnt. but I was smart enough to do my own research and ask my doctor! though.. I do remember being in a class setting something up and that class was learing about safe sex and the teacher kept saying that "Sperm is smart, tough and determine!" now.. abbreviate that for me kids... ;) |

^ i know! haven't these kids seen degrassi high?? the one were one of the characters has aids, and then people are scared to sit on the same chair as he did because they think they'll get it. then in the end they learn that you can't get it from chairs and it's only transferred via bodily fluids?
either way, they need to smarten up on the sex ed in school. ours was horrible. what we learned was the basis of making babies, and how the female reproductive organs work, why we get our periods and what happens when we do. oh, and to wear condoms to prevent std's. other then that there was no teaching about std's and aids and anything else. if they don't start teaching these things, they'll never get better. those statistics are surprising though.. |

Some of the stats you posted were wrong.
11-26% of hetero women DO NOT have AIDS. It would make more sense you had said that the number of AIDS cases among heterosexual women has risen by 11-26%. There are only about about 20, 000 adults living with AIDS in Canada. Do the math. http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/pphb-dgspsp/p...ih/women_e.htm |

sorry about that. I thought thats what I wrote. I guess i typed it out wrong.
here is some of the percentages from that site you posted. The proportion of AIDS cases among women (relative to all reported AIDS cases in adults for which gender and age are known) has increased over time, from 5.6% before 1992 to 8.3% in 1995 and peaking at 16.4% in 1999. In 2001, the proportion of AIDS cases among women has remained at 16%. still regardless its not showing any good news. |

People in canada are oblivious to the facts...Me included but I don't have to worry about it because I believe in monogomy with one person forever....
But regardless....Kids today think that they are invincible...I know we've heard that a thousand times, but it's true. They think Aids is only something happening in Africa and you can only get it from really dirty ho's. Not sweet suzy two lockers down that has only slept with one guy....Of course that one guys a slut. It is really dangerous nowadayz to go around having sex with everyone...or anyone. But just another condition of this world we live in. People cannot control their sexual urges...and rarely think of the consequenses of their actions. Low self asteem, lack of trust, hurt feelings. STDs, Aids, Abortions, unwanted pregnacies, Rape, Child molestation.....I wish this list ended. |

When I was 16 my cousin died of A.I.D.S - at the time there was still a lot of press on the disease - there was a lot of widespread panic about it and still many misconceptions
it's still a pandemic, it should still be causing fear - But instead I find most people are still left with misconceptions and the focus in current highschool Sex Ed. cirriculum is not disease education - but abstinence Sex education still has a long way to come before it genuinely serves students - More then 30 million people on this planet have HIV/AIDS that's like the population of Canada and yet there are still people out there that think only 'fags' can get it - When stats show that young women are the ones contracting it more then ever now Educate yourself! Protect yourself -- and if you are sexually active make it a part of your regimine to get tested on a regular basis, take your partner-- Watch out for yourself cause no one else will |

sometimes ppl will say they are sure they are safe and have only been with ppl they trusted but what about the ppl that they trusted before you and never got tested and before that. You can only look out for yourself and its good to do even if your totaly sure. I always go even if i've been tested and only been with one partner i get them all done when i get a check on hepatitis c which you can get outside of the bedroom. I'm not sure if its changed but i always heard that its best to go in and get tested once a year or every 3 partners. I think after every partner is good though. and also as far as aids is concerned unfortunatly you need to wait at least 3 months or more before you can actualy find that you have contracted it. But yah ppl should really learn how to take care of themselves and go that extra step past the condom. Last edited by Kandyapple; Sep 11, 03 at 03:37 PM. |
