Sure sex is allowed on tv after 9pm I believe (and I've seen people in bed under the covers on 6pm shows). Prime time starts at 9pm...that's when the kids are supposed to be in bed. But you don't see any (or barely any) nudity on at these times. The softcore porn on cityTV (gooo citytv and their friday nite porn!!) is on so late (1am-ish) that barely anyone will see this. I think those movies are just filler because the hours between 1am-6am aren't tracked as much (they aren't during the defined broadcast day). You also have to remember that a lot of the sex on tv is broadcasted on american channels. They don't have to follow nearly the same amount of rules as we do (I am not sure of what their acts consist of yet)...hah. This is perfect since I'm taking this stuff in school. (broadcasting).
Anyways, this is what the Canadian Television Broadcast Act says about what can't be broadcasted. Nowhere does it say sex...however I know some of the acts that are guided towards children and the media do say stuff about it:
5. (1) A licensee shall not broadcast
(a) anything in contravention of the law;
(b) any abusive comment or abusive pictorial representation that, when taken in context, tends to or is likely to expose an individual or a group or class of individuals to hatred or contempt on the basis of race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age or mental or physical disability;
(c) any obscene or profane language or pictorial representation; or
(d) any false or misleading news.
(1.1) For the purposes of paragraph (1)(b), sexual orientation does not include the orientation towards any sexual act or activity that would constitute an offence under the Criminal Code.
