A 1995 study suggests that use of a bong or water pipe does not necessarily lower the overall ratio of particulate matter to THC and may be counterproductive. In other words, it lowers the particulate matter, but it also lowers the amount of THC. For the same effects, you may have to smoke more...thus raising your particulate matter back to a level equal to that inhaled from unfiltered sources (joint or pipe).

I love smoking outa bongs because you get so ripped ...but i think if i had to only choose joints or bongs for the rest of my life it would have to be joints.....and i can see how you mite lose THC when smoking out of a bong....but then why do they get you soo ripped?? i guess because you get fatter hits from a bong......eh

Joints you can fit in your pocket and smoke almost like a cig. Bongs need maintaining and usually can't be smoked out doors where weed is supposed to be smoked. If I could smoke weed at it's purest form.. straight outta my hand.. I would. Joints are the next best thing.

it is true that the water in a bong somewhat filters the THC, but to a very minimal extent, and when one smokes a joint, much smoke is lost in the purgatory stage between puffs, so it pretty well evens out. a hotbox is a different story altogether. joints in a hotbox is the ultimate way to get reeipped!

I also know a guy who drank some very old bong water after the bong had been used to smoke crack for a while too... I wasn't around for that one, because I don't smoke crack... but I bet he got pretty messed. I'll also note for the record that this guy was an idiot.
