a couple questions about e, k, etc
i have the 1996 pharmacology big red book lying around and plan on posting some general info.
a couple questions to help in research though: 5. what's the names of the chemical compounds: GHB, Crack, Cocaine, Heroin, LSA, LSD, Ketamine, MDMA, MDA ? and anything else ya might be interested in knowing. semi-useless information - methemphetamines are sometimes used in the treatment of people with Attention Deficit Disorder. don't ask me how. |

^ the whole methamphetamines being used to treat people with ADD is semi-correct. Dexedrine is used to treat ADD. It's generic name is detroamphetamine--you guess it, a stimulant. (Google the latest article about the US airforce wanting to give their pilots Dexedrine) Stimulants have been used to treat a wide variety of things for a long time. They're even used to treat depression at times.
I don't know why you're going through all this trouble. First of all, your pharm book is outdated. Any sort of publication like that gets old after about six months...I have a 2004 Drug Guide right now, but i'll probably have to update it next year or the year after, at the latest. Also, we have the most up to date resource for all this info right at our fingertips. It's called the INTERNET. Anyone who wants this info can look it up. It's not that hard. Diva/Esi--too lazy to log out edit: oh, and as for the how question of why amphetamines are used to treat ADD: That's mostly for children. Drugs like Dexedrine, Ritalin and Adderall have been found to have a paradoxical effect on children with genuin ADD. Also, it's widely known that a stimulants improve concentration (up to certain dosages). Why do you think there was such a huge craze with speed use among university students in the 70s? erowid is too generic for my liking, that and it loads uber shatty like with the browser i have right now.
Whether 6 months or 6 years, any LEGITIMATE *as legitimate as government can get* source of information is an asset. while it may not contain last months tests, the AHFS* Drug Information 1996 resource still apptly describes the main role various drugs affect each part of your body. and it was methamphetamine hydroxide they were using, not Dexedrine. Though I do not doubt what you said about it being a generic stimulant. I believe it was Desoxyn and Desoxyn Gradumet (with povidone) they were administering to patients, starting at 2.5-5 mg and moving up 5mg increments to a maximum of 25mg daily. note: it was also used to treat exogenous obesity. the internet is great and all, but a bias perspective and questionable sources are 'iffy' at best. edit: *AHFS - American Hosptial Formulary Service Last edited by Goat; Jan 16, 04 at 04:09 AM. |

Desoxyn (Methamphetamine hydrochloride) is a controlled substance, just like Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine) is. They're not that chemically different. Both are stimulants. Both are used to treat ADD--Dexedrine more so than Desoxyn. You can find legitimate sources of information on the internet. It's not that difficult. Most pharmacists and medical personel use a huge guide called the Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties. Or CPS I don't know if it's available online, but you can definitely get it at any library. Here's a link to tonnes of peer reviewed journals, university websites, and other resources on drug info. http://www.bcpharmacists.org/links/ |

^ I'm not trying to start a pissing contest. Just trying to point out that second hand information isn't that useful (or reliable).
You couldn't even find the chemical names of the drugs you mentioned in your first post. If people really want the info, they'll find it. That's all. |
