Accutane
Anyone on it for skin problems? If you are how long have you been on it, explain your side effects, how long they've lasted, all that fun stuff.
I'm on it, but not for skin, it has been proven that it can mature cancer cell growth so I'm on a high dose. I've been on it for um about 10 days and I have the most horrible chaped and cracked lips ... I also have icky dry skin on my face. [I have been on it before so I'm not surprised at all, I had it when I was little and it was still experimental] ` Allie |

yea i was on it about a year and a half ago, basically it fucks with your liver so your not supposed to drink when you're on it, and gives you chapped lips, dry skin, and makes your skin more sensitive to light. So yea just use lotsa moisterizing stuff

I've been on Accutane twice because my acne came back a year after the first treatment. I had all the effects you guys have mentioned but I also remember a strange feeling in my head. The second time I took it I had only been taking it 2 weeks when I had times where I broke out crying and didn't know why I was soo upset. This is very unlike me and as it continued to happen a few times I had decided to stop the treatment. There is also statistics that show there are higher instances of suicide amongst people taking Accutane. I did not tell my doctor what had happened.
A side note not important for someone using Accutane for cancer treatment but for people everywhere who use it for Acne. Skin problems are many times often due to low intake of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. I began taking a capsule which is a mixture of fish oils, borage, and flax which are all high in fatty acids and my skin hasn't been this good since I finished my first round of Accutane. The fatty acids are also important for your joints aswell. |

there was actually a documentary done on a guy who had committed suicide while accutane. his family I believe had tried to sue the company saying accutane was the cause of his suicide because he was apparently totally fine before taking it... The fatty acids are also important for your joints aswell. my nursing class had a discussion about whether or not if we had children, to allow them to go on accutane if they were to have severe acne. personally, I wouldn't want to go through such side effects unless it was their absolute last resort. I've known several people who have been on it for acne and I've heard of some shitty side effects, ranging from very dry, chapped lips, eczema, bleeding gums, depression, etc. I've only met one person who was on accutane for a year and seemed fine with it. --Joanne :P |

I wonder if researchers take into account that years and years of having terrible skin due to acne can damage one's self-esteem so much that it can lead to depression, which in turn, can lead to thoughts of suicide. I used to know people who couldn't even make eye contact because of their sensitivity about their appearance.
I don't know, just a thought.... Some people are willing to go through the harsh side effects in order to get ride of their acne. I recently had to convince my mom to let my 16 year old brother try it. I hope it works for him. |

I was on it for 6 months when I was 15, the only side effect for me was dry skin...but that's the idea.
6 months worth, and since I haven't had more than 4 or 5 pimples at one time, and they're usually not noticable at all! In short, I loved it. Great stuff, for me at least. |

I was on accutane for about 8 months.
The side effects were fucking aweful, face peeling off all day, cracked and chapped lips, dry (sometimes bloody) nose. But it really did the job - my skin is much much clearer than it used to be. The only thing now is that when I get pimples on my neck they tend to take longer to go away and seem to be deeper under the skin. Its not really much of a problem though, since I have about 1% the amount I used to get. |
