i have mixed feelings on this.
i honestly think its ridiculous that people get jailed and fined for smoking pot. but on the other hand, if you look at places like amsterdam that have legalized weed... they have a huuuuuuge hard drug problem on their hands. i think if pot becomes legal it will lose its novetly and alot of people will turn to harder things. theres something about the fact that a drug is illegal that makes alot of people want to do it more. i think its probably safer that kids get their kicks out of smoking weed rather than something harder. but then on the other hand, it would be good for our economy to attract the same kind of tourism that amsterdam attracts. |

the pot laws dont bother me here at all, i can smoke whenever i want, pretty much wherever i want, i have no intentions of needing to smoke on the stairs of the police station.so fuck it.whataver its all good i figure.i can still smoke a blunt at starbucks and not feel heat about it like we would have to in the states

Oh my god I was hoping there'd be an educated post up to this point.
The answer wether you smoke pot or not is YES. Why? First off with marijuana being illegal you immediately create an artificial black market where criminal elements can profit off it. When marijuana is illegal it costs hundreds of dollars more then it's worth, which in turn aids to the underground drug trade. Secondly marijuana is highly effective for medicinal use. It is a better remedy for the following ailments then anything available on the market: glaucoma, multiple schlerosis , cancer treatment post effects, aids treatment post effects, arthritis , depression, chronic pain, migranes, any neurol-degenerative disease, and many more. Keeping it illegal forces anyone looking for relief to turn to the black market. Third we're dealing with a substance that has YET TO KILL A SINGLE USER! Marijuana has never been attributed to a single overdose, or death from complications. While tabacco kills over 100,000 people a year ( every 8 seconds ) marijuana remains illegal, seems somewhat insane. Forth, in countries that have legalized or decriminilized it's use, there is a lesser amount of children using it. United States has the worst marijuana laws in north america, and also has the highest use amongst teens . Holland by contrast has the most liberal laws regarding marijuana and the lowest amount of teen use in the world. If all this wasn't enough, it was prohibited in the first place under racist intentions. Poor mexican immigrants brought it to the United States and they found it as a tool to put many of them in jail. As it spread to the Harlem Jazz scene it became yet another reason to arrest african americans. Both the Canadian House Of Commons and the Commitee on Recreational Use Of Narcotics of Canada recommended legalization. The LeDain commision 30 years ago under Pierre Trudeau also recommened legalization. |

no , thats not it at all.
The fact of the matter is that amterdamn employs a strategy called "Harm Reduction" . Meaning instead of treating hardcore drug users like criminals, they treat them like human beings and try everything within their power to lower the risks assosciated with their behavior. For example, instilling clean injection sites, having nurses on hand, lowering the amount of diseases as a result. Amsterdamn has a very responsible approach to hardcore drug use and their quality of life is a reflection of that. We're only now trying a 4 pillar approach in BC, which is consisting mostly of the first pillar, enforcement. |

i like the laws the way they are....
yes criminal elements can profit off it, but so can the middle class man. for a lot of people its the only thing that keeps them above the water... and i can smoke a joint, get busted by the cops and get sent home... hell i've even had cops give me a push start in my car after they dumped our roaches out. |

you guys say "0" either way because you can access it easily. This is true, most of you live in BC which has become the biggest grow capital in North America. In New York a pound goes for about 10,000$ US while here it goes for roughly 2200$ CND .
however if it was legal, there would be no criminal inflation. It would cost the same as tomatoes to produce, by the pound, which is rougly 40$ . So wouldn't you rather be able to get a pack of joints as easily , cheaply, and heathily as a pack of cigarettes? there's over 6000 varieties of marijuana, each one with its own unique high. There'd be flavours like in a candy store. www.emeryseeds.com for a look at the different types. |

I think it would be good for the Government to legalize it for recreational use and medical use. The only concern I would think is how would they test you for "being under the influce" while driving a motor vehicle. but why not.. We already get taxed enough on cigarettes and fuel. Why not tax it and maybe we can get this country out of the defcet...
