Working at a Cold Beer and Wine store has really given me a greater respect and understanding for the variety of wines.
Personally i would say White is my favorite then moving to Zinfandells, but i find with most reds, i tend to get bad heart burn. Good Whites: Pier D'or(France) Alice White(Australian) Little Boomy white Savingon Blanc(Australian) Jackson Triggs Chardonay(B.C.) Sawmill Creek White (B.C.) Ernest& jullio Gallo Wite Zinfandell(u.s.a) Reds: Little Penguin- Cabernet Savingon(Australian) Yellow Tail- Merlot and Shiraz(Australian) Wolf Blass- Eagle Hawk(Australian) Valipocceli - Cabernet Savingon(Italian) Almaden(USA) Fat Bastard(France) Bin 120- Merlot(Argentina) Grey Monk- Pino gries(Bc) Painted Turtle- Merlot/Shiraz(b.C.) I know very little about wine. A couple questions:
1) Whats a good price range to aim at for a decent bottle of wine? I usually find that when I spend a bit more it's usually worth it. (ie $20 as opposed to $10 will be a much better wine). 2) How much does the originating country really account for? I just bought a bottle from France for the first time... i think this is the best bottle of wine i've ever had in my life. |

for casual drinking, the wines in the 9-13 range are fine. for a nice dinner $15 and up... and for a gift, $20+
the originating country and date can be used to know how good the harvest was that year. I heard Bordeau 2001 was a fantastic year in France and those bottles are disapearing fast. Definetly good to collect those if you're into that. British Columbia 2004 is also a hot year |
