ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

[apology for the indescriptive thread title: when i was typing this david bowie-changes just came to mind and tada there it is :P]

anyways my rant...it makes me so upset when celebrities get so ingulphed in the industry that they let themselves become these indivuals who have let their agents sculpt them into how they think they should be.

the classic example is lindsy lohan, i hate to even make reference to her, but when she first started out she was the cutest innocent looking red-haired girl. and then some stylist or maybe it was her, herself, but everything changed about her as she tried to fit into her new more sell-able look. yeah she "grew up" but it all happened a little to fast, and i didn't/still don't like it, i want the original version back, not lohan 3.0, or lohan xp. the one under all those fake eyelashes and brand fucked clothing, the one who didn't make music videos, and the one who wasn't trampled by the tabloids.

another, slightly less notable example, is on the food network [i've fallen asleep to to that channel every night for about 3 years] there is ths one canadian chef "anna olsen" from her pastry show "sugar" on foodtv...she [anna olsen] has gradually gone through a series of physical improvements...she got into shape, obviously paid a few visites mystic tan, improved her solid-color wal-mart style wardrobe, and highlighted her hair...but while she's more pleasent to watch for half an hour of programming...i can't help but wonder what she is feeling inside about her change. yeah now she's looking pretty fit for a middle-aged woman, but inside her...what does she really think about changing herself so she could become a more idealistic spokeswoman for the food network?

on one side of the spectrum it's great that these people have improved there image, but on the other side i see it as such a drastic change that their improvements have wrecked what the person originally was.

i'm so divided on the idea and morality of changing someone, using them as a tool to sell products, or rack in box office hits..

what are all your opinions? is the transformation of geninue person into a made-up celebrity a good thing, even when it could conflict with their personal values?

maybe this thread is too deep for fnk, but doing all this E is making me so fucking emotional and sensitive to the smallest of problems...i just felt the need to express my concern. i've had close friends gone through these unannounced changes, and it's hard to see people change, hard to get to know their "new self" and forget there older insignificant one...ya know where i'm coming from?

oh, and also: anyone who hasn't already seen the documentary "the corporation", it's well worth a video rental charge. despite the fact it's quite long in the end...it gives you a big ass reality check.

why do you give a shit?

seriously. it's a bunch of people i don't care about and never really will. they have their jobs and those jobs tend to create things that bleed over into the public eye. but frankly, i couldn't care much less that britney spears is breeding.

it's all just publicity and not worth the effort. let the people content with being housewives who sit around watching soap operas and talk shows be preoccupied with what love triangle has spawned between brad, angelina and jennifer. i'll worry about my own life.

^well, i do give a shit, because i'm aware of the world i'm living in, and i care about where it's going. i'm not intirely self-contained in my own bubble, and turn a blind eye to stuff that's going on. it does concern me, because i'm fed publicity/advertising/politics/other shit every day, and to not question or philosophize why the hollywood industry decides to create these market-perfect people would be ignorant. i don't see a problem with caring, it's probably better to care more, than not enough.

most of these people sign themselves into the life they choose a lot sooner than you start hearing about them.

it'd be nice if i could care, but honestly these people make way too much more money than i do for me to start feeling sorry for their success...

i feel sorry for tony robbins. not for katie holmes.
