Trippiest music to listen to high
I know that one of my favorite things to do while stoned is listen to music - it brings all new levels to favorite music and intensifies it a million times... my favorite shit to chill to would be TOOL (any of it really, wow is this shit awesome), GORILLAZ (fucking weird, especially demon days), and MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS by THE BEATLES (seriously, I highly recommend smoking a huge blunt and putting this on, very very trippy).... anything else that you can think of that just puts you in that awestruck mood while high?

try listening to Mr. Bungle - Disco Volante (or any of their albums for that matter). The first time I heard the first Mr. Bungle album (self-titled), i was completely fucked on shrooms with like 8 other people all shrooming.
definitely left some mental scarring... |

Psychadelia! You're in my jungle now!
I own Tool's Opiate on vinyl.. that and Undertow are definately the cream of the crop. Maynard's voice can entrance you with a single held note. The Beatles have never been a psychedelic band for me, even in their most experimental moments. Although they are credited for bringing psychedelic rock into pop culture. And as for the Gorillaz.... have fun with that. but of course, the best music to listen to when you are high is Primus. All three members of the group are at the top of their game. Les Claypool's mad basslines can get you so pumped up or leave you so chill. He's one of the most talented bassists on the planet, hands down. His lyrics will make you laugh out loud, and he has a highly diverse voice. Ler LaLonde's guitar riffs are unstoppable and can vary from blisteringly fast and hard to funked up country licks to crazy jazz-style off-note insanity. Their two drummers throughout their career (Tim 'Herb' Alexander, and Brain) were both brutal drummers. Their drum beats would sound so simple, yet be so technical, and just make you want to flail. Sometimes I listen to the music when I'm tweeked and feel like I am listening to something beyond human comprehension, like there's so much more to the music that I can't hear. Now for Chunglewick's Psychadelicatessen: Phish and the Greatful Dead (the two greatest jam bands ever) Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention Oysterhead and the Flying Frog Brigade (two Les Claypool side-projects) the Velvet Underground (Lou Reed's early days) The Zombies Bela Fleck and the Flecktones Steve Miller Band (it has it's moments..and the guy was taught guitar at age five by none other than Les Paul.. how fucking sweet is that?) Rush The Pixies (not so pyschedelic, but definately excellent when high) Iron Butterfly Cream The Byrds The Holy Modal Rounders Jefferson Airplane The Doors (some people just haven't heard of them) Pink Floyd (ok.. this is obvious, but I had to throw them in for credibility reasons.. who wants to listen to a guy talk about psychadelia without mentioning Floyd? Although, pre-Roger Waters Floyd isn't so psychadelic. Syd Barrett just wasn't that creative, although still talented.) The Beach Boys! (I love Brian Wilson's work, it's truly psyched-out) I'm sure I've got more kicking around in my head somewhere, but check those out of you haven't heard of them all. Happy tripping! |

hmmm . . . it all depends on what im craving hehehehe. Maybe some older hip hop albums, Talib - reflection Eternal, Mos & Talib - Blackstar etc. For downtempo St. Germain and Thievery Corp would be some of my top choices. Most of the time its just a particular track and we go from there :D
ps. gorillaz - deamon days is dope!!! |

I haven't taken pot (or any drug for that matter) in a long time but I remember one time a few of my brother's friends got me to smoke up with them and when they dropped me off at home and I just sat down and listened to esthero's "breath from another" album and layers in it seemed incredibly panoramic... one of the few times I actually enjoyed the experience of smoking weed...
I suppose the ambient music I listen to would be cool to listen to on weed, but ambient is good enough for me the way it is... |

Trippiest stuff I've ever listened to stuff from Warp like Aphex Twin and Boards Of Canada. Psy trance does in a pinch as well, but is sometimes too fast for when in the throes of a good trip (me likes it blissed out).
Want a really good trip? Get Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works II, throw on the second disc, take mushrooms, and prepare for Dave Bowman-styled journeys. |
