New Drug Law in Italy
Thought I would share this with you guys, even though it might not be interesting for Canadians...
Anyway, today the Parliament approved ( the Senat has already) the new drug laws. The law was written by Gianfranco Fini, who is the leader of the right wing ( we call them neo-fascists ) and the main contents are: No more difference between class A drugs ( heroin, cocaine,...) and class C drugs ( cannabis and its derivates ) If you are caught with an amount higher than the personal daily amount prescribes, you will be sentenced to jail between 6 and 20 years. If you are caught with less, there are going to be fines, you risk your driving licence, and non residents risk their permissions. This daily amount has to be decided by the health minister ( they said 0.5g of cocaine and less marijuana ( cause rich ppl take coke and poor use marijuana... ) So this means..... lots and lots of not guilty ppl in the already filled Italian jails, many will risk their future for a couple of joints and the organized crime will get more money for smuggling weed or coke or whatever. Well, there is still hope this law will be brought to the constitional court, because if it is signed by our president, it will be total chaos in here.. Thank you Italian RIGHT WING government!! |

ok sorry haven´t practised my english in a while...
so lets say the health minister sets the daily Personal amount to ... 0.3 grams of marihuana. If you are caught with less than 0.3 ( lets say 0.2, I know it sounds hilarious) you risk that your drivers licence is taken away and if you are not from Italy, but you live there, your permission can be taken away and you are not allowed to stay in the country... ) They are going to set the amount for marihuana lower than the amount for cocaine, so the rich ppl can still carry a larger amount and not be arrested.. |

yea you can be fined but not arrested...
it´s a crazy, unconstitutional law We have elections the 9th of april and the parliament is going to be dissolved this saturday, and they are passing idiotic laws like this one... It´s a fucked up government.... if you know Berlusconi you know what I am saying. So much conflict of interests. Berlusconi is the prime minister and his government just passed a law, that after the court sentenced you not guilty, the crown attorney can´t recall ( don´t know if it´s the right expression ), the sentence... And this guy who is our prime minister was found not guilty just a year ago by the court and now he is passing such a law... I hope the government is going to change in April. By that I don´t mean all conservative or right wing parties are bad, but here in Italy they are... |

wow that's horrible.... the real scary part (for me, anyways) is that now that we have a rightwing gov, you never know if shit like this is gonna happen here! I think making harmless things like marijuana illegal is retarded anyways - you are just putting a bunch of stoners in a jail (and there is a lot of them) and now its costing a bunch of tax money to keep 'em there and feed 'em... does that make sense? you would get a lot more money if you just fined them... but no, that would be semi-intelligent... grr..

i seriously think that law is messed. like fuck, so you have to smoke the whole daily limit at once. you cant spread it out thruout the day. So if you get caught with the daily limit its arite, if you get caught with less than the daily limit you get fined. shit...
Yaa i dont know too much about italian law or anything, but it seems really really wierd. You live in milan italy? where did you find this site? |

yea , thanx for understanding, i hope there will be better times, right now it is seriously a joke. in no other industrially developed country the laws are that strict... but italy is in the european community or union (eu) and hopefully the eu parliament will set standards to be followed in every country of the community. I will keep you updated to what is happening :o) !! |

thanx I would love to, van is my favorite city. Not for any reason it is considered the city with the highest living standards... But I have to study Italian law if I wanna become a lawyer in Italy. If I can do one uni year abroad I will try to come back :o)
