it really depends on if you want the high end or mid range pc if you buy the high end now, the price is super high, yet in couple months it will become cheaper and something new & better (and more expensive) will come out so it's really up to you if you are willing to sacrifice the money Last edited by vaporize; Nov 18, 06 at 08:25 AM. |

Most of what you've chosen are all great parts. The power supply you've chosen is definitely overkill though. The only time you'd need to consider a 1000W power supply is if you're running dual Geforce 7950 cards. Since you're not, and you're running a system that isn't capable of SLI (only Crossfire, and ATI has nothing out at the moment that can compete with the 8800GTX), something in the 600W range will be more than enough.
RAM, so long as you get a good brand name, pretty well anything will work well. I usually use OCZ or Kingston stuff myself. If you want RAM with the same timings as the Mushkin set you've got, Kingston has a HyperX kit that's about $20 cheaper per kit. If you need to save money, go for one of the HyperX kits that's miminally slower (4-5-4 instead of 4-4-4), and you'll save almost $300. Performance wise, you would never notice the difference. For hard drive(s), I'd go for either the Western Digital RE or Seagate Nearline series of drives. They come with 5-year warranties, and have a longer MTBF. |

now thats the kind of reply i was lookin for
yah the power supply i just picked for a random price, i heard mushkin was good shit tho from sum1... but another friend of mine recommended kingston so i think ill look into that more thanks! http://pc.ncix.com/pcbuilder/index.p...latformid=1000 updated any info on making the comp run silent? any1 warnings or info on cooling? If you're looking for silent, there's a few things that'll have to be changed. I'd probably go for an Antec P180 case instead of the Coolermaster. It's got some sound insulating material in it already. For a silent power supply, I've always used Seasonic S12s: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...12-600HT-F3BLR. NCIX also has one that is rated to be quieter, at 14DB: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...%20Corporation. For processor cooling, Scythe is pretty well the best out there. Combine this cooler: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...facture=Scythe with their 8DB fan: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...facture=Scythe and you got a very quiet setup. For the video card, I don't think I've seen a compatible quiet cooler yet. I'll see if I can dig something up though. If there isn't anything yet, even with all the above items, you'll still have a pretty noisy system. |

i'm not an intel fan, but to each of his own
right now i have athlon64 x2 3800+ (clocked at 2.6ghz & running Big Typhoon fan) for your list (http://pc.ncix.com/pcbuilder/index.p...latformid=1000): i'd change some of these to: it's the best cpu fan out there, it's huge but works the best, might not be as silent but it cools down and good for overclocking!!! http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...re=THERMALTAKE for your motherboard, i'd suggest you to get SLI compatable (2 PCI-E 16 slots) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...nufacture=ASUS for your ram, get at least 2gb and overclockable ones http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...Z%20Technology for an silent SLI powersupply http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...Z%20Technology for the video card, get the BFG or EVGAs (BFG - watercooled, very quiet but expensive) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...20Technologies OR (EVGA) http://www.ncix.com/products/index.p...nufacture=eVGA |

Wow, I wouldn't spend $1200 on 4GB of RAM. That's brutal. 1000MHz RAM definitely isn't needed, unless you're doing some crazy overclocking. Since you chose the E6700 chip, and because of the nature of the machine, I'd say that's probably not what you're going to be doing. 800MHz 4-4-4-12 RAM from Kingston is half the price, and will work just fine for you.
One thing I just noticed is that you have a regual 4:3 screen. That, of course, isn't a bad thing, but I personally find widescreens better for audio/video/CAD editing, because you can get more toolbars on the screen at once. That's totally your choice, but it might be something to consider. |

For the case, I'd say it's probably not necessary, but that's totally up to you. The Stacker can hold a crazy amount of drives, but you've got one hard drive, a floppy, and two opticals You can fit that into a much smaller, nicer case. With cases though, everything is a matter of preference. Some people buy based on looks, and what looks good to me might look ugly to you. Some people buy based on function (quietness, number of drives, etc.), My personal favourite base that is a good balance between looks and function is the Antec P180. It's insanely heavy (especially for an aluminum case), but it's quiet, can hold 6 hard drives, i believe four optical drives, and the outside looks of it are decent. I personally think the Stacker looks ugly, but if you think you might ever need that amount of drives, that's the way to go. |
