the 8" have flooded ebay, a little overkill. They are going for around 60-90. I have this one guy who wants 60 for the whole thing shipped but i'm wondering if they are going to drop due to the plethora of similiar obey designs on other figures.

The Obeys are too common, the 8" is bare hype.

I don't think Biskup/Baseman/Burgerman/Dalek/English ever made beanie babies.

Besides Hipsters can't afford anything in Headquarters/Voltage/El Kartel.

Strike 1.

Strike 2.

I guess the fact that Artists are making these designs is just too much for people to grasp.

It's art, it appreciates.

Your beanie babies you got stuffed in your closet are worth nil.

See the difference ?

It's still mass produced art.

It's all supply and demand.

An influx will be reached, prices will diminish, interest will fade.

Ultimately leaving these polymer bunnies worthless to most, except 38 year old virgins who speak klingon fluently.

No different than any other "collectible".

Strike 3 cubed.

It's limited edition runs in the 100's mainly.

Some are 1/300, called chases, really rare ones go for 500$.

Interest is far from fading, it's steadily growing as more artists make more sets.

Not Polymer, Vinyl.

You're out.

Yeh the chases stay up in value and certain 1/50's from each series. We all put value into things and it's hard to tell if that identity will withstand time.

It's not all about dunnys though. I'm really feeling mars-1: the invisible plan series and there bigger 6" observer and recon.
http://www.millionaireplayboy.com/toys/invisible2.php

or the kaws black dissected, so sick.

I think it's less about mass consumerism and more about collecting. Alot of the bigger 6"-16" figures are limited to 100. The collecting part of it is what makes it so satisfying. Anyone with a bit of obsessiveness can understand that. Some of the dunny designs and other toy stuff is complete garbage but there are some very artistic pieces.

I guess the appreciation value depends on the staying power of these designers in future projects and how the community surrounding these pieces develops over the years and it is still growing. There is tonnes of support in the scene but you can't speculate how it will all turn out 2 decades from now.

Buying vinyl music is mass-consumerism too but it supports a culture even if it's dying, still people live by it. Buying into these pieces (music or art) allows for these artists to produce good work, you just have to seperate the crap from the good. Same thing.

The mass-consumerism part comes in when people buy up these limited to 100 or 500 pieces that sell out in 20 minutes and then flip them for higher prices pushing the value up. The people who actually collect them are doing it for the fun, enjoyment and rarity aspects. Those rare ones are going to be what keeps the interest alive.

I collect them, but I also agree with Cubed. I don't think they are going to be worth a ton of money down the road. However they are fun for now.

Although I have to say this, Kidrobot, is flooding the market right now. Two blind series in two months? Plus another one coming up.

If anyone is interested, Headquarters is having a huge sale. All toys are 30% off, including the azteca dunny series

Series 1&2 3" that could have been bought for 5$ when they came out now run in the 100's for most, do the math.

If you want the Q-Bert your best bet is the KR forum.

The bay is shady as fuck for dunnys.
