ya I dont understand the harsh feelings towards lorin... I saw him twice this year. once at the commodore in spring and then again at shambhala - going toe to toe with Ztrip.... (INSANEEEEEEE)

he plays tunes that make me want to dance, I had massive fun both times I saw em!

no harsh feelings towards him at all I just think he's highly overrated. he's not at all impressive skill wise and he plays pretty boring music IMO. I've seen him play maybe 4 or 5 times and he's never got the crowd going that good... all I can figure is that he's genius with his marketing.

and the commodore show was really cool because of the crowd it brought out. It was so different than any other show I caught there; lots of hippies and weirdos haha, looked like a little mini shambhala!.

I'll just relate my personal Lorin story..

Shambles 04... my second.. (went in 02, 04 and 06... and probably 08 ).. as it turns out, the least enjoyable of my three experiences. Things had been sketchy and not that enjoyable for the first half of the sojourn.. we finally met up with our other friends Saturday night and had a better time.. come Sunday night it was four of us, two guys, two girls.. we're in fractal but there's some douchebag from T dot in a yellow sweatpants/sweatshirt combo playing tracks from 5 years ago. Sucks pretty bad.. so we decide to head to Ewok Village..

It's packed. Really packed. W t f?

We squeeze into whatever space we can find..

Gradually we start realizing that the music is awesome. Really awesome. (I am relatively sober, since I have to drive us home the next day). I remember my comment to the other guy in our group:

"Not only have I not heard these tracks before... I'm not sure I've even heard this GENRE before!"

But I liked it. He was playing a kind of SLOW, BASS HEAVY rasta influenced hip hop. It sounded freaking AMAZING on the speakers at Ewok Village (which they've ruined since then, as you probably know).

In the subsequent... 5? 6? times that I've seen him, I don't think he's played quite that particular style again.. but I've enjoyed myself and danced a lot and met lots of fun friendly people.

As opposed to clever marketing, call it... first impression resonance

Looking forward to seeing him at Plaza, and at Shambhala 08

i remember trying to squish into fractal forest to hear him play, and he played i think.. 3x that year? and each time was PACKED!!!
but omg.. the bass... and that music! i said i didnt like breaks and someone informed me that yes.. indeed this was breaks.

and then in the wee early hours of the morning of this last shambles.. he played his downtempo set (the first time for my ears) and i just about melted
i was *SO* tired, but it was so beautiful. and then the sun came over the mountains near the end of his set... :love:

i didnt realize this was happening.. i may have to be there.

your lucky! oh i was so choked when I missed this. I actually went to sleep sometime saturday night and woke up about 5 minutes before my buddy got back to the camp site to inform me of how amazing this sunset beach set was....
I was like "WTF you bastards were supposed to wake my ass up!"
but I guess they were just being considerate of the fact I hadnt slept all week.
fortunately I caught him later on duelin with ztrip in the village so that made up for it- definitely one of the highlights of my time out there this year.
