I would like to find a list of local fashion designers who are established in the Vancouver area. Not so much small boutique style designers but runway/show sizes independent companies. If anyone whos' of some please post them up. I have been attempting to do some research and can only find peanuts.

Whats wrong with peanuts? You need peanuts before you ever get the elephant, Myles!! :D

Twisted angel, what school do you plan on going to? Ssarah, have you really looked into the other fashion options in this area? I was planning on going to kwantlen but have started to have some interested in Helen LeFeaux. I think the idea of a smaller more concentrated class AND school really appeals to me. I've checked out kwantlen in depth but haven't had the chance to do that with LeFeaux yet, I'm curious as to why people choose to go to certain schools, who has already been there, and how far they have gone after.

I'm planning on going to school within a year or two, but want to establish myself a bit before I do. I've been making clothes for myself and other people since I was 14. And people ask me all the time where I got my "creations" so why not start selling them a bit :P Plus that sounds much more appealing to me than grovelling for more hours at starbucks!

**Loren**, I will be in touch with you as soon as I can get some examples together. They're nothing extremely creative or original at this point, but you have to start somewhere right? I also make a hell of alot of Burlesque costumes, do you think there would be a place for that on the site?

Loren, is there any specific styles you aren't interested in? Because I do fanasty and fetish wear as well, so I was wondering if I should bother submitting pictures of that (don't worry, its nothing nasty :D )

Any type of jewellery or clothing is accepted. It doesn't have to be eccentric. Even drawings are a start...as long as the drawings can be created. If anyone is interested in up-and-coming fashion check out today's Vancouver Sun "arts and life" section. There is a great article on, and amazing work done by, Kwantlen students. I'm very impressed. Thanks again everyone,

I've looked really hard into Fashion design Schools all over. Kwantlen's program, Fashion Desighn and tecnology is a combination of Design, Marketing/Production, And Business. Its one of two schools in Canada that give a degree in fashion Design. The other is Ryerson in Toronto...Its cold there tho.. You will learn every aspect of the industry here and they are very foccussed on you leaving the school employed. You dont get to make what you want either...you have to focuss on market trends and different age groups...I have a portfolio review/interview at the end of April. This program is crazy because its like 70 hours a week of work and you are not recommended to have a job while going here... There goes my social life.... I dont know if im ready for something this intense. And i dont know if i want to live in richmond...Im hella confused...
As for other schools, VCC has a program... AI does but I think there more concerened in your money than anything... Capilano has a textiles program... and Helen LeFeaux i havnt looked too hard into but i think is more design ,and there are a few others.... If this is what your interested in good luck... its haaaaaarrd

I know how important it is to know the business and marketing side of the fashion world, but I don't like the sounds of this "you don't get to make what you want". Of course I want to learn the business, but I don't want to compromise my work just because it might not be as statistically desirable or extremelely marketable. Don't you just have to chose a gender and age group at Kwantlen...? Or are they really restrictive on what you design?

I'm a little intimidated by the workload too, I think I'm going to take some smaller portfolio prep, sewing design, maybe even cad courses not only to improve my design skills but my time management as well! The organization and time management department is something I deffinately lack in, which will make what I want to do hell, or impossible.. :/
