FS: 89 Firebird Formula 350
I'm selling my 89 Firebird Formula 350.
-5.7L V8 -Auto -Factory A/C delete -GM ZZ4 camshaft -Heads machined to accept ZZ4 cam springs -Custom computer chip -K&N filter -Accel wires -Upgraded to speed density setup -POSI rebuilt 2 years ago -comes with an extra full exhaust system (Flowmaster I believe) The car is in overall good shape. The interior is in good shape. Exterior is pretty decent, bit of cracked paint on the bumper and a rust spot on the driver's side door, but its a solid car. Engine runs fine and pulls nice and hard. I havn't had a chance to dyno the car but it should be putting out about 250hp and 350 ft lb of torque. That means nice smoky burn outs. Asking $3300 obo. It will make a wicked summer car for someone. Last edited by PHOTONIC; May 24, 06 at 11:15 AM. |

What stopped them from throwing in a tranny capable handling the stress? |

the easiest tranny swap from my understanding is the 6 speeds from 4th camaro/firebirds (93+). My friend did that with his 92 Z28. And apparently during the 80s, GM changed their tranny suppliers I believed. Instead of building trannys/rear ends built to easily support most engines. They went the route of matching tranny/read ends to engine needs.
Why does this car scream surrey? |

I know someone with an 86 IROC Camaro with TPI engine (I think it's essentially the corvette engine from that year), does this Firebird have a similar engine?
That IROC has automatic, nice car, just step on it and go fast, decent handling too. |

rice on mustangs...? ew
In regards to the IROC, yes its essentially the same engine. The Formula has a bit more juice because GM made some mods and adjustments over the years to bump power up abit. Actually, since it's an 86, its probably a 305, not a 350, as only 50 or so 86 IROCS had the 350 TPI. If it is a 350 he's damn lucky and should check to see if it's the original engine and wasn't swapped in. The 350 TPI didnt make it's official camaro debut until 87. |
