Pope's comments stir anger towards Muslims

First it was the muhammed cartoon's that caused some chaos..... Now you got the Pope quoting a Byzantine Emperor that pretty much bashes the prophet Mohammed and Islam.....

Here's the quoted comments he used based on what the Emperor back then used:
" Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached. "

and....

" God is not pleased by blood, and not acting reasonably is contrary to God's nature. Faith is born of the soul, not the body. Whoever would lead someone to faith needs the ability to speak well and to reason properly, without violence and threats... To convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death.... "

Now obviously these types of comments is trying to state that Islam is a violent religion, which of course sure there is outrage in the Muslim community condemning this, simply by saying there religion is a religion of peace. However then you have these other protestors who are now making death threats and have now committed some type of violence such as bombing some churches in Gaza simply to try and get the message across that there faith is a faith of peace...???

All I see is a bunch of crazies on both sides... Thank god I don't worship either of those faiths...

Such acts have very little to do with true or sublime expressions of faith. These occurances are the result of years of oppression/violence/segregation/inequality and apartheid government. In response such communities organize and resist, and in the process outside reactionary forces take it upon themselves to ridicule their faith.

If Islam wasnt the predominant faith amongst the strongest and most active resistance forces, whether against full feldged monopoly capitalism or domestic oppressive regimes, then there wouldnt be such attacks and fearmongering attached to the faith in western nations. In turn violent resistance wouldnt be as predominant either.

Study the balance of forces, and the current context in which violence occurs and why.

I sincerely doubt the pope is stupid enough to purposely ridicule the Islamic faith, especially given Islam's aggrivated sensitivities in the world today (which I agree are a function of percieved and real 'oppressive' Western interests). It is clear to me, from reading the entire speech, that it was his intention to highlight that violence is not the message of any religion. Undoubtely a poor reference to use - perhaps a reflection of nub-osity as pontiff - but I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

Either way, he apologized today.

Isn't it the nature of religion to compete with other religions for converts ect ect. It's a given that christians and muslims both believe their way is the only true way, so why the uprour when some one says so?

Praising another religion seems like a contrary act.

It still irk's me that Pope Benedict was of the "Hitler Youth" when he was 14...
So maybe he had no choice...but who are we to know the exact facts..
Why is there a holy leader....shouldn't the amount of praise people give the pope be given to god?..Why should we be blessed...when we are already are, all around us..
There are so many things about religion i'll never understand..

this is going too far in my opinion....
The Mujahidin said: we will conquer Rome like the prophet said.
I know it´s just a tiny tiny part of muslim extremists, but in Bassora people are burning images of the pope.
What a fucked up world we live in... a right wing ex minister ( Calderoli) wants to print T-shirts and show them on tv and the print says: Let´s defend our Pope... He has worn t-shirts with mohammed cartoons already and the effect were 11 italians killed in a foreign country ( don´t exactly remember where).
Why can´t they fucking separate religion from politics. Not only extremists, everyone is connecting all that shit to hate on each other...

I agree..it has gotten out of hand...and with all of this commotion happening, that Calderoli smells a business opportunity to make money by selling t-shirts. *T-shirts! T-shirts! Everyone Get your Pope T-shirts!!!!*
