AVI Graphics Card?
So my friend has a Dell Dimension 3100 desk top and wants to instal a graphics card to run dual monitors. How ever the problem, or so I'm told, is that you can not upgrade with a PCI slot and that you need to buy a new mother board with a PCI Express. I was just looking on eBay though and saw this graphics card http://cgi.ebay.ca/HIS-RADEON-9250-P...QQcmdZViewItem
that seemingly should work. Also it would be a requirement that the card have an S-Video out on it. Suggestions? |

if he's running XP or 2K he absolutely can expand using the PCI slot. He will however have to set it up in his BIOS so the PCI card starts first and that it is assigned an IRQ. It also can't be in a slot that shares and IRQ with another device (ie onboard). In my experience you can get a ATi Radeon 7500 PCI to work flawlessly with an ATI Radeon AIW9600. You might even be able to let the AGP card start first (better performance)
he should obviously just look at buying a $50 dualhead AGP card first. Get a DVI-to-VGA adpater (prolly ships with this card) and you're laughin |

i bought a crappy pci card at future shop this week, for just this purpose at work. we use dell's too. i didn't have to make any of the irq adjustments bobman mentioned either, though you might have to. whoever told you that about pcix is wrong.
