No 2010 Games In BC?
Anti-Olympics group feels it's time to cut our losses
document.write(dateConvert("2006-09-27 23:9:44"));September 27, 2006 - 11:09 pm By: Nikki Pena Vancouver (NEWS1130) - Olympic Watch, a group opposing the 2010 Games in Vancouver and Whistler, says it's time for British Columbians to cut our losses when it comes to the Olympics. The group says it would like to see another referendum on whether to hold the games. Olympic Watch also argues there hasn't been a full accounting of the costs and government promises to ensure the games will be green have already been broken. The group is currently in talks with other anti-Olympic organizations around the world about a possible boycott of the Games. ------------- Never wanted to see 'em here anyways. Anti olympic organizations can do what they want to boycott but it won't make a difference... 2010 is a waste of money IMO. Dumb ass cost overruns... Mismanagement... What horse cock. |

they will either jail them for the 2-3 weeks while the games are here or just bus them out of town and dump them into kamloops or something...

Get a new soap box...maybe you can use mine, there's plenty of room :) . Olympics would be cool to have here, but they are over-rated and quite the slush fund for the financial elite. I think we should just spend the money on creating a big building shaped as a dollar sign and then blow it up. |

haha exactly. i mean c'mon guys. haven't you seen what has happened to every other city that has ever held the olympics? costs are predicted, costs are raised, costs are raised again, production is delayed, more delays, more costs.
it's just the circle of olympic games life. then it'll be over and BC and Vancouver will still be here (hopefully with some more tourism, i guess is the dream) and we'll all go on with our lives. but i do like DJmarkpaul's idea of making a building shaped like a dollar sign and then blowing it up. but i think first we should airlift the building across the city, lighting it up with high powered search beams. |

~~Sarcasm Can Get The Best Of Me.
Do they think when they speak?? As I had heard they start the construction for the SEA TO SKY HIGHWAY just about a week ago. But thats a lousy estimate. WHO THE FUCK WANT"S THE OLYMPICS anyways. SCIENCE WORLD IS A MUCH BETTER PLACE ANYWAYS... I would have thought that having Canada being one A the G8 nations that we could afford that type of Event. Sounds cool buddies! whoops. I tapped the caps. SORRY. but no. really.? QUIeF ~~thekey |

I caught some of this on the news last night and this 'opposition group' is pathetic. It's comprised of a bunch of no job hippies (a few of them looked like they thought the word 'shower' was a bad word) who are full of all sorts of demands that essentially boil down to them getting shit for free.
Social housing, clean up the east end, do this and that for everyone! I am fully supportive of offering the help where it is needed with my tax dollars, don't get me wrong, but for once I'd like these loser protesters to realize that every once in a while I want my hard earned tax dollars to go towards something for me too. I'm sick of the idea that I go to work every single day to help a bunch of people get supported for free. Sure there are the ones that NEED it (no problems here) but there are so many more people that just milk it who could get off their asses and work! I'll be volunteering at the games and I am excited as hell about it. While the costs may be high now we'll be left with fantastic new public facilities, new roads, and hopefully an even more solid base for tourism. Face it, there are ups and downs to hosting the Olympic games and to anyone who thought this thing would come in at the exact budget that was set.... you must have been dreaming. There are cost overruns when building a fucking condo complex let alone funding an entire Olympic games Last edited by Cdn_Brdr; Sep 28, 06 at 09:05 AM. |

right now cancelling would cause a lot more problems i think than continuing considering the ammount of money already injected into construction and planning. just go ahead with the damn thing and afterward we'll have a bunch of new buildings and a sweet new skytrain.

Transit in this city is deplorable and traffic is a nightmare, I'm definitely down for anything that makes getting around easier, I totally support new skytrains because it will hopefully convince more and more people to leave their cars at home. We would have needed these improvements badly, I think the olympics just pushed them into action a little sooner.

As well as the bid they place to hold the olypics... we would have to forfeit and someone else(other city would take over)
I SAY FOREIT! VANs City officials and BCs and CANs ppl are a bunch of F*CK heads if they mis-happened to calculate thier Bid. I'd like to see what happeneds when We lose the Olympic Holding Stance. So much for watching Hockey from my own HomeTown. ..!! |
