With Vancouver’s 5 Opposition MLA’s
You may have heard that Gordon Campbell has cancelled the fall sitting of the legislature. I have received many calls and e-mails from constituents expressing their outrage at this undemocratic decision. So the five Vancouver Opposition MLAs are holding a public meeting for people who want to make their voices heard on this critical issue.
Gordon Campbell and the BC Government have been trying desperately to portray a new “kinder, gentler” image. But this move reminds us that this is the same arrogant Gordon Campbell and that his government has no respect for democracy and democratic institutions. By cancelling the fall session, the Campbell government is either admitting that they have no ideas and are adrift, or are evading the accountability that is provided by the democratic process of a legislative sitting.
The Opposition believes that there are many issues to deal with in the legislature, including
· homelessness and the affordable housing crisis
· highest child poverty rate in Canada
· our pivotal struggle with climate change
· skyrocketing cost of the Olympics
· people paying to access care in public health facilities
· ongoing attacks on our Agricultural Land Reserve
· softwood lumber sellout
· plans to put luxury resorts into our public parks
To name only a few! This forum is an opportunity to voice your concerns and demonstrate your support for real democracy.
Hope to see you there!
