Dude, "often used in the context of being stranded alone on a small clump of land" Is this not what i fucking said? You think i'm not aware of the different uses of the word desert? How can you have a deserted desert island? How can an island be a desert in the 'climate' sense of the word? 'Desert island' is pointing to the metaphorical use of an island with no inhabitants. Which is what i said and what you reiterated in your condescending diatribe. Now if you can find me a picture of an island that is like the sahara desert then i'll put my foot in my mouth. If not stfu. Last edited by decypher; Oct 15, 06 at 11:38 PM. |

a large knife, like kabar or such
a large bottle of penecilin a large dog, something with little fear and and a ton of loyalty if i could sneak another thing onto the island it would be something to cook food in, like a cast iron pot or a wok. |

Like the saying goes; I only want one desert, but I'd like two desserts. (that's how you remember how many s's in desert/dessert)

Not in every circumstance, it isn't. It depends on how the image of a "desert island" is being used. There are other ways of looking at it besides your exact definition, which I explained. Have you ever thought of switching to decaf? You seem on edge. Last edited by Mangle; Oct 16, 06 at 09:13 AM. |

Yeh but how can you have a deserted desert island as you claim? and i was refering to the use in this thread.

That would be a desert island with no people on it. In terms of this thread, how can you be on a deserted island? By being on the island, it is, by definition, not deserted, though it may still be a desert. But we should really let this thread get back to it's roots...

You can get water using your Tarp, a Hole and a Rock. You can make a bowl out of wood and that Swisschamp of yours.
So here's my three Items. 1. Big fucking Rambo Combat Survival Knife. 2. A small Mirror 3. A big Spool of Paracord. See you bitches later! Totally wouldn't be sticking around long on that Island. |

As mentioned many times there is no such thing. I asked you to prove it to me because i haven't found any evidence. I'd love to change my perspective if you presented me with proof that an Island can infact have a desert climate. Which was the whole reason for my rebuttal.

^^^ This wiki definition sites that often "desert islands" are mistakenly used to refer to uninhabited islands, not neccesarily desert (climate) islands but it doesn't take away the fact desert islands can exist.
Hence, this island: http://www.geo.ulg.ac.be/eduweb/post...s/sai/sai.html Here's a desert peninsula: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/wi...at/at1302.html Australia is also technically an island and contains desert. ...so, unless you're going to prove to me these islands don't exist, can we drop it now?Nope, I've actually read several of his books. They're better than both of the movies based on his work (Bill Murray also played HST, you know, though his movie was less trendy). But, then again, I'm a reader. I wouldn't expect you to understand. Australia is a continent. A desert is a "region" and a region is "any considerable and connected part of a space or surface; specifically, a tract of land or sea of considerable but indefinite extent; a country; a district; in a broad sense, a place without special reference to location or extent but viewed as an entity for geographical, social or cultural reasons." How is that tiny island of Sai in the Nile a desert region? You can play lofty semantics all you want. No more of this crap though i always waste my time with this bs. PS. Just because you have a HST collection doesen't make Revolver's point any less valid and you implying that he isn't a "reader" as you just shows how ignorant you are. It's great to have discourse but you're elitist attitude gets in the way. |
