Hey DJs out there
just by curiosity.. how often do you practice your mixing and or turntablism on your decks? or sombody else's?
this does not include just listening to your music or when you get booked for a show.. but actually practicing im lucky if i practice for maybe 20 minutes in a week with my new stuff and maybe do about 4 or 5 mixes more if i actually go and practice with sombody else as i find it a lot more fun with at least sombody present to hear what i have to offer |

Once a month for 6-8 hours. I just make a day of it. Not so much to practice mixing but just to listen to new releases and get a feel for what will do well on the dance floor and of course to sort out what tracks go best into specific kinds of sets. Having a digital library is soooo much easier than sorting through all your cds and burning all of this weeks releases to disc.

I play / practice my records almost every other day... my roommates get very annoyed from listening to dnb a lot so I try to limit myself...maybe a bit before work, if i'm not at gym...
right now one of my tone arms will be getting replaced so I'm a deck short, but I just got a crate of new records that I haven't heard so I cant WAIT for my deck to be fixed. then i'll be practicing as much as i can with my new collection... |

right now it's looking pretty tight.. i should have 2 mixes coming out in the near future.. one is pretty much what im all about with the smooth rolling basslines and melodies with the funk and jazzy feel to it the other will be more bassed on the raw beats of songs that i just couldn't say no too even though they aren't fully my style as for spinning together.. i have tues and wednesday off.. if you have any of those days off.. or if you are just looking to do an early afternoon thing before you go to work im game.. otherwise ill let you know my schedual for the rest of the week and we can set up a time for some time in the week |

you played High Contrast - Music is Everything (matrix remix) along with a number of tracks i own, and i was happy because besides myself you are the only one i've ever heard play that track at any shows i've been to so it means you have great taste in muzak ;) that song never gets old and still remains on the top list of my records even though i got it like 3 years ago |

really? i remember the set up being pretty good.. it was just really dark so hard to see anything (which sucked)
the mixer was a rane empath if i remember correctly and the decks were technics mk5's the needles might have been a bit shady.. but that's nothing new to any party |

When ever I play its at least for 45-90 minutes. I try and play at least 1-2 times a week, but when it comes time to putting a mix together ill play up to 10-15 hours a week for a solid month or two. When I play at the salon ill play for a solid 4 hours... luckly ADHD cant defeat me there and its an amazing way to pracitice and learn!
