Zinfandel is a blush wine and there are a million different types of it ranging in sweetness.
If you're concerned about sweetness look at the label 00 generally implies that the wine isn't sweet and 04 is the sweetest. Obikwa shiraz is fantastic - it's really your best bet for an inexpensive full-bodied shiraz. I'd also recommend yellow tail shiraz as a decent inexpensive Australian wine. In terms of white wine I picked up a bottle of yellow tail sauvignon blanc on Bowen Island which had melon undertones and it was the best wine i've tasted in awhile. AdamAnt4201, that seems like a pretty good sangria recipe. I've tried a million variations of sangria, the easiest and cheapest one I've come across consists of: 2 cups of red wine (I usually just use Mission Hill Cabernet) 3 shots of triple sec 3 shots of brandy 1 cup of orange juice 1 cup of 7 up and 2 cups of two different types of juices (apple, pomegranate, anything goes) TONS of fresh fruit cut up - strawberries, cherries, apples, kiwi, grapes, blueberries mix it all in a pitcher and fill it up with ice perfect summer drink |

all i drink are whites, but i can only drink white zin, gewurtztraminer, and rieslings solo.. they're too sweet to pair. i'm a sauvignon blanc girl for sure - tend to get the Oyster Bay, or the Carmen reserve (if I can find it).
there's a neat wine tasting tomorrow night that i'm going to. it's a blind tasting of locally available wines under $15, and all proceeds from tickets go to AIDS charities. check it out - http://www.shootingstarsfoundation.org/undercover.asp |

And all I drink are reds. I like Zins, I'd recommend the Dancing Bull label. It's available everywhere. As for shiraz's, Obikwa is nice and has a great name. =) If you wanna try another out go for the Fat Bastard shiraz. Don't mind the name, it's a spicier full bodied red at a reasonable price.
Don't cheap out on your wines! I've been experimenting over the past year (wine and weed never fails) and I'd say the $20 bottle range is worth it. Wolf Blass and Penfolds (koonunga hill) are where you should dabble with if you're unsure. As well, I've yet to taste an african wine (like lindenburg <sp?>) that i didn't like. |

i love my sauv blanc as well.. stoneleigh and monkey bay is amazing..and when im at a restaurant and i want a sweeter white.. the cedar creek dry reisling is amazing, unfortunately only restaurants carry it, but it just makes it extra special.
bfs a cab sauv fan and his fave is the turning leaf... he tends to like big bold dry reds that have think that you licked a chocolate bitter tree, he's a big fan of that.. im sure its good if u like strong reds. lawrence (kao) is right.. i personally like the dancing bull as well, everytime i drink that the wine disappears in minutes, and u cant go wrong with the penfolds.. rawson retreats/koonunga is yum. |

I know hey. Impressive! What do you like to drink, you had a head start to figure out what you like. I know you got the martini avenue figured out. Green Apples all the way. =j~
Yeah bebu, those are my favs as well. I guess working at a restaurant can help refine the love of wine. I tried to do a bottle a week when I could afford to. Best Summer Ever. |
