there are no reports of damage or injury as the quake was deep and 1000km of shore.
the seismic wave was only .5m high.

Tsunami waves, which are generated by earthquakes, are often barely noticeable in the ocean but can rise to great heights once they arrive at shore.

Japan is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries because it sits atop four tectonic plates.
~ The Province

So even though the waves were small...it could have been much worse..consider "on Dec. 26, 2004, a 9.1-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Indonesia caused a tsunami as high as 10 metres that killed at least 213,000 people in 11 countries." So a difference of ONLY 1 can make a huge difference...But I'd still feel bad for the midgets :(

I experienced my first earthquake in Japan actually. I think it was like a richter 4?

The fact that earthquakes are a common occurence in JP is really obvious just in the precautionary measures they take for earthquake preparedness. I remember when I went to school there long time ago, we always had earthquake drills and every student was required to have like this earthquake cover... to put over your head to protect you if there is ever an earthquake.

I didn't even know there was an earthquake until my roommate informed me of it. The concerns people had about the tsunami on our coast was kind of a joke to me though, compared to the fact that all my relatives including my parents were in japan.

Yeah, but when she was talking to us about that she told us about the earthquake.

I should have worded that more better, my fault.
